My D70 died on me in Hawaii. Nothing but ERR and a faint click when I try to shoot. Tempe Camera says it needs a new shutter to the tune of at LEAST $200. For that I would be retarded to not pony up a little extra and buy a better body, but still sucks as I have under 500 clicks on this thing.

Anyone have a cheaper place that could repair this thing without gouging my eyes out via my wallet?

Canon ;)

I'm just kidding, good luck with that bs man, really sucks. If you do have to dish out some cash, just buy a newer/better body.

You bought it brand new?
IF you did, then there's nothing wrong- just use the warranty if you already registered it.

Thread is old but, try C.R.I.S Camera. Located in Chandler, Az. They are authorized by Nikon to handle repairs.

CRIS does a decent job but i would trust tempe camera more, and dallas i don't know if i told you this when we talked but 200 is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CHEAPPPPPPPPPPP for a digital SLR. so cheap. my lens cost 250 to clean and repair through tempe camera... that's a lens!

if you took it to CRIS they would tell you 350+parts and labor.

The status says staging for shipment so I'm assuming it might be fixed and headed home?!

best buy's isn't good, they send it usually to the manufacture, if not then to CRIS... takes about 6-8 weeks... not worth it in my opinion since typically best buys doesn't cover accidental damage or an internal cleaning, best warranty for the money is Ritz Camera's ESP Program, can literally destroy the camera and they will replace it, still takes some time but worth the money if you're rough with your shit.

and that's great news Dallas, you tried calling them at all?

They replaced the SQ base unit (whatever that is) and it's back to working specs. I got a tracking number and it should be to my place in a few days.
