I'm trying to quit smoking. I get horrible cravings, and honestly I kinda freak out and am getting super anxious.

Does anyone have any idea's on what I can do instead of smoke?

I quit smoking today... After hearing a story about a friend of a friend that battled cancer for 2 years going thru kimo therapy, got completely rid of the cancer, and then 2 months later the doctor told her that they had found cancer in her brain.. Now she is battling cancer again for the 2nd time and who knows if she will beat it this time around.. But to go thru more kimo after you just got done fighting cancer for 2 years, and then to go thru all the emotional stress agian? I don't know about you but I'm done spending 6-7 dollars a pack to slowly kill myself.. After hearing this story it really hit me.. Just think about your future and if you want to be in and out of the hospital... Shits not healthy.. As for your cravings... just think of this story.. have you tried any patches or the gum?

metastic cells travel through the body in the lymph nodes, and the breast is littered with them. chemotharapy is only so effective, the thing is that you are killing yourself as you are also killing the metastic cells. its almost like a race, which one dies first.

i would recommend a cold turkey approach. you body only NEEDS nicotine for apprx 65-72 hours. after that it is all phycological cravings. its going to be hard, but replace any craving with something else. if you can fire your hippocampus in the same manner as when you get pleasure out of smoking then it should work. kiss your significant other like a million times a day and see if you have any more cravings. unless your girl smokes also, then its like eeeewwwwww...

try to stay away from the meds, as they are expensive and have propensity for bad side effects. that would be talking about chantix (though it seemed to work for the majority of patients, some did still commit suicide), and welbutrin. both are stimulants, but just act on the receptors in a different fashion.

also grape seed extract has been shown to help, as well as vitamin b12 for energy. but you have to have/do something for b12 digestion to properly occur. i forget what it is, may be sunlight or something...i forget... but you need ot top properly take the resulting metabolite and have it work as b12.

so, find new activities that you always wanted to get into. rock climbing, weight lifting, something light for starters. dont know how much you smoke but you dont want to overinundate (sp?) you body in the beginning, one thing at a time or you could become immune supressed.

also if physical activity causes bronchoconstriction, try a steriod which will help to open the airway up. advare is really good. and finally if you have alot of mucuss build up while working the body, try mucinex. but remember to drink HELLA water as it only works when you do so.

best of luck and remember, a day at a time is more than an accomplishment.

(now if i could only follow my own recommendations)

lol. First off, I'm a girl. lol.

Thank you for all the advice, the only time I get cravings is when I'm at work or just sitting around. Because those are the times I'd smoke. I just started doing MMA, and when I'm doing that I don't need to smoke or even want too. It's just when I'm at work, or at home sitting around. I have only had 2 today, when usually it would be up to 5 or 6 by now.

Ugh.

Regular chewing gum does wonders. Once you have a craving, pop a piece of gum in your mouth and then spit it out when the craving diminishes. The easiest way to break a habit is to change your environment, so stay away from all the places where you would smoke frequently. If you smoked on your patio, don't hang out there. If you smoked a lot in your living room, start hanging out in your bedroom. If there was a bench you sat on at work, don't sit there. If you smoked in your car, borrow someone else's. Past that, all I can really tell you is things get much easier after a week, but stay away from anything with nicotine in it, as this is not going to help your cause at all. You can break the smoking habit all you want, but you'll never actually be done with the nicotine until you break your addiction.

That's a good idea. My only problem is I smoke a lot at work. But other than that I think I could stay away from smoking.

Good post. :)

lol...

takes 28 days to make or break a habit... didn't smoke at all yesterday... had cravings but just kept telling myself no... Today I think is going to be easier, haven't craved one yet today.. My worst cravings are when I'm driving and or just sitting around waiting for someone or something to do... I find it easy to just keep yourself occupied..

Just break your daily smoking routines and whenever you get a craving, just put something EDIBLE(food only...lol) in your mouth. Sets some goals and whalla your done. Use your kids or your heath as motivation. It's all in your mind, so don't be weak minded. gl

some kid i know has one of these fake cigarrette things that has these refillable cartridges that have pure nicotine in them and you take drags off them like the real thing. they give off vapor so theres "smoke" when you exhale and its legal to use indoors. they make different strengths so you can slowly decrease your intake. my girlfriend works in a pharmacy and said they are somewhat expensive, but when compared to buying cigarrettes the cost isnt even comparable. i guess a cartridge is equal to like 15 packs or something like that

at my old work just about everyone smoked. The managers decided to quit and encouraged all the salesmen to do the same, so they bought like 30 dollars worth of sunflower seeds one day, the place was littered with seed shells.

iv lived around smoking my whole life. everybody i work with smokes, the main thing is dont make a date to quit smoking, quit now. my dad smoked his whole life, and quit by chewing gum. clean for like 6 years, all the sudden we have to sell the house and all the stress piled back on him, so he started smoking again and admitted he would quit after all this stress is gone, but that obviously wont just happen. but its gunna stress you the fuck out when you quit, thats why u let ur anger out through the telemarketers, chew gum, eat good candy, work out, and go on youporn. and after about a few months it will be a thing of the past, as long as you just keep it a life long priority to not do dat shit.

i care cause it annoys the fuck out of me when everyone who works wtih me wants to take smoke breaks every 30 minutes, i never get shit done with this kind of distraction.

i know this might sound weird, BUT, i really really reallly REALLY recommend trying to smoke some weed.. trust me.. you will get that sensation that your smokeing something so you wont be dieing over not having a ciggarette. when you smoke the marijuana you will of coarse get high.(not biligerant) but just enough to put you in a good mood, when your in this good mood you wont be stressed out, you'l be calm not irritated. you wont want to smoke a ciggarette since you have already smoked... when your smokeing this weed, it will not only be less harmful to you but it will also help ALOT with your anxiety and stess levels... one half smoked bowl wiil do you good for a couple of hours. compaired to this one ciggarette every half hour that last only 5 mins and makes you smell like shit, and fucking kills you...... you wont become a raging stoner, who sitts around and gets high all day. (unless you want to)... but i swear, you do this and you will forget about ciggarttes. yes weed is illigal i know but what the fuck? if its going to kick your ciggarette problem i would do it in a heart beat. befor that heart doesnt beat anymore. get what im sayin chief?

you said your down to having two cigs aday correct? well i garentee that if you hit some weed one time evertime you wanted that cancer stick. you will be set, high and have already forgotten about that cig since your craving will be gone.

and if your worried about haveing to DROP FOR a job or any of those wack ass lame excuses, you could buy this.
i have neve EVER EVER EVER came up dirty in my test, this works wonders.
