View Full Version : putting new carpet etc...

I tore out the carpet and I want to sound deaden alittle. Any ideas on how to strip the old sound proof material, I heard use dry ice, has anybody tried this and does it work?

Curious in this too, i've had my carpet off my car for about a year, not sure about taking off the factory sound deadning materail, i have heard of using heat and a putty knife to take that crap off

yah, I'm using the heat gun and a putty knife right now, it works pretty good but you have alot of tar that has to be removed. I'm using paint tinner and disposable shop towels to clean up.

I heard dry ice works, I've never used the stuff. They say it works, you purchase a block and you break chunks and use gloves. You leave it on awhile and then you break the material up in peices. :hello:

dry ice works very well its semi cheap and it freezes it so it chips right off

dam, i just used a putty knife, then some orange cleaner and a scotch pad, came out hella clean, they i layed the carpet over ... good luck

Haha it's funny that i just saw this thread. I JUST installed Fatmat in the floor of my car yesterday and i left all the stock sound deadening stuff on

no need to removed the factory one, but if you want to do it, dry ice is your best bet... nothing else...
