Ok so I will be attending school and taking some digital photography courses and need a camera. I need a good camera that is good for a beginner but that I won't have to upgrade later on to take better pics. Lmk your past experience with the camera and the pros and cons, thanks.

rebel xt, or xti depending on how much you want to spend. i have owned a rebel xt, and a d40, and the xt blew the d40 out of the water in my opinion. im actually trying to get a hold of another rebel right now

Can't go wrong with with and XT/XTi/XSi. Nikons take "prettier" pictures out of the box, IMO, but Once you gain confidence and start spending money on good glass the entry-level Canon will surpass an entry-level Nikon.

Again, IMO.

I'm a Canon faithful, been through an XT and XTi and I still have my 20D and 40D. Next step is a 5D.

Thanks for the advice, so far since what I have researched and what people with experience have told me, I think I might go with a xti or xsi.

Sony A200 was voted best entry level DSLR in 2008.
I use it and not many people complain about my pics.

I'm in the market as well was deciding on Xsi or D90. Would like to get one to use during sport events and portraits. Any advice on which lenses to purchase?

first you should choose a platform you want to go with

it stupid but little hands nikon and bigger hands canon lol

everybody has their preferences... im a canon person

if you dont want to upgrade later id go with something like the 40d from canon if you have the dime to drop from the get go

I had a 1D 2, went to a Nikon D90 and never looked back.

I'd recommend getting an old Nikon FE2 and a good scanner and a Canon 20D. That's be an awesome set up to play around with.

Thanks for the advice, and yeah I went to ritz to look at them and the canon is bigger than a nikon.

i guess i should have explained why i said d70 haha

most important if you dont want to upgrade later
dont get a d40 or the like without a focus motor in the body

if you get a d40 be prepared to be paying well over what the body is worth in lenses that have focus motors built in.

I found a site which sells them real cheap and are brand new, I might be getting the rebel xsi with the canon 18-55mm and 55-200mm lens to go with it

x2. 5D FTW!!!!!!!!!! I'm looking into FINALLY getting a DSLR because finding GOOD film for my Canon Elan 7 is getting harder and harder within any kind if budget. JUST based on my experience with SLR's (9+ years), I'd shoot a low-end Canon before I'd shoot a high-end Nikon. I don't like their menus, their functionality, and wierdly enough, their shutter buttons! HAHAHA!!! I just don't ENJOY shooting with them. Then again, that's just my opinion.
