uhh,, DO NOT BUY from this website. FYI. There are a ton of SCAM Camera websites. Usually "based out of New York State".

FWIW, the Canon and Nikon DSLR's Sell from their respective companies for more than what "Rogers Camera" is asking.

I could take all day and type up a review on them but I'll let you read other "e-pinions".

i shot nikon for about 5-6 years. finally switched to canon after too many problems and annoyances last year. would never go back. i would get a newer rebel starting with the xti as the lowest to go. i don't like rebel's however, because of the small size. if that's what you're looking for then cool, i prefer my 20d and it's bulk over all of them. 30d/40ds are cheap now too so you could go that route.

this isn't a bad deal for a beginner wanting something simple to use.

that would be my only gripe with the Sony as well. Much easier to use than the Canon or the Nikon IMO. Mine currently has about twice as many actuations as my XTi did before it shit the bed.

Also, extra glass is a little pricey for the Sony but if you're just a beginner, then the 18-70 and 75-300 should be just fine for 99% of your needs. Personally, think the only other lens I'll be buying will be the 50mm 1.8 and that'll be it.

eh, i don't like 50's...

i just purchased the 10-22 for my canon and i love it.

but all the cameras are going to do great in the auto mode lol...

Just go with the XTi, you'll never regret it. We've bought two in the last few years, both were used for more than 3,000 exposures without any problems whatsoever. I've used quite a few different types of cameras from Point & Shoots to SLR's, and I found the D40 wasn't very user friendly in comparison to the XTi. Regardless of which route you choose to go, read your manual cover to cover and then pick up some good books on photography. Shutterstock and Istockphoto are also great places to turn for advice on how to take a good picture.

3000 actuations is not that many, try 45,000. my xti couldnt hang my d70 is still going

wow weird, is your 70 a 70s by chance? i had nothing but problems with my 70 even after having it services... dallis has experienced the same thing, good thing i got the extended warranty that was transferrable.

i have around 20k actuations on my 20d and that's just from me... not even counting the previous owner.

i wouldn't be so quick to spout off about the XTi, the XT or even the XSi's quality. When mine broke I had Tempe Camera look at it and they told me they see them come in broken all the time. Two members on this site have both had the same issues with them.

heard/read these same things...

i've never heard or read anything about this from a 20d/30d/40d or even the 10d and old rebel which were pretty similar.

every company is going to have it's problems but it's like that when you buy anything.

just my 2 cents...

Megapixels are irrelevant. I have printed 20x30 inch prints with my D40 and they're sharp as hell.

Steady camera, and knowing how to use it is how to get good prints.

Plus, the D40 performs exponentially better than my friends Canon in low light. This saturday, we shot at a mansion all day and her low-light shots came out full of noise, while mine had hardly any noise.

That, and Nikons menus are easier to understand in my opinion. I think Nikons are far more suited to entry-level photography.
