Yes.
Bench shirt. Not the same as bench pressing raw(what you think it is). It is a different lift. A bench shirt like that might add 300+ lbs to your bench if you know how to use it.

PhxKid92 03-26-2013 01:11 PM

whats a bench shirt

Spec C 03-26-2013 01:20 PM

In powerlifting there is what is called "RAW" lifting that is where you go in there and lift weight. You are allowed a belt, and sometimes knee wraps(depending on the federation) but that is it.

Then there is "geared lifting" in which you wear a bench shirt, a squat suit, or a deadlift suit. They have what is called "single ply" classes, and "multiply". That refers to how thick the equipment can be.

Basically think of it like a rubber shirt, that is about 900 sizes too small..lol What it does is basically stretch as you lower the weight, then like a rubber band snaps back.

Put it this way some shirts you can have 500lb on the bar, and not even be able to touch it to your chest because it is just not enough weight to stretch it enough.

Just getting into it is extremely painful, and hard. Takes a few people just to put it on..

It is just not the same as a raw lift. 700lb seems like a lot but there are people who have benched over 1000lbs in a shirt.

However the current RAW world record is 715lb.

bmxican 03-26-2013 01:23 PM

what spec c is correct. Almost all lifters started with compound lifts. I know for the first 2 years of lifting all I did was like big 3. You build a solid base like that. then eventually you start finding your niche. the 5-3-1 i like a lot for anyone. I might even go back to it for a year starting in 2014.

Spec C 03-26-2013 01:24 PM

1075 bench

PhxKid92 03-26-2013 01:26 PM

ohhhh i gotcha. so its basically cheating lol what gym do you go to spec?

bmxican 03-26-2013 01:26 PM

Im all about raw lifters. If I were to do powerlifting based workouts/ try to become one I would be all raw. I even consider wearing a not being raw no more. The only thing one should use is chalk. Nothing against geared lifters just it aint my thing. I's not like I am going to wear a bench shirt and lift shit on the farm. lol

Spec C 03-26-2013 01:30 PM

It isn't really cheating it is a different sport all together. It is like racing classes. You aren't going to be running pumpgas against nitromethane..lol

I lift out in the far east. LA Shitfest.

I am kind of the same way. I want to just lift shit..lol In the SPF knee wraps are considered raw, but I am still debating if I am going to use them in competition or not. Everyone else will, that is the only thing making me want to use them.

A belt doesn't really do much for you, that is why in every federation a belt is considered raw.

I hate wearing mine though. I always get yelled at to put it on for my heavy shit..lol More so then anything I use it as a cue to get a big breath in my belly.

I am hoping when my new belt gets here I like it more for deadlifts then my 13mm.

PhxKid92 03-26-2013 01:34 PM

nice im picking up some Olympic weights this weekend, im pretty excited about it

Spec C 03-26-2013 01:39 PM

Good stuff. Wish I had a 3 car garage I could just dedicate to a home gym.

On a side note, to all you new lifters. Be aware of your surroundings in the gym. Don't get in peoples space. Last night I watched a guy literally lay on the ground 2ft from my training partner as he was about to unrack a 415 bench. Well to make a long story short he got absolutely bitched out by a VERY angry 290lb gorilla for a good 3 min..lol It wasn't pretty. I felt bad as hell for the dude, but what he did was not only bad gym etiquette it was unsafe as hell. I am sure he learned a lesson he wont soon forget. As did everyone standing within 100ft of us and watched this unfold..haha

SiR Mikey 03-26-2013 01:45 PM

:( thats just a complete lack of common sense, holy shit

PhxKid92 03-26-2013 01:48 PM

Spec C 03-26-2013 01:48 PM

Dude it was bad. I have never seen my buddy lose it like that. That guy just about shit himself.

Then he was like "sorry man. You should have told me you were benching".. He was like "WHAT? oh fuck no, wrong answer. You should have said anything BUT that... This is a fucking bench, and I am benching, you are laying on the floor doing cable crunches".

No lie dude. The guy had the cable stretched out about 10ft away from the cable stack/machine itself and was laying right by the bench with his back facing us. I have no fucking clue why he even felt he had to have it extended so far in the first place.

Spec C 03-26-2013 01:51 PM

This

A texas deadlift bar, power rack, and an adjustable bench and you are off to a good start.

The problem with training at home if you don't have the proper equipment is you are really selling yourself short.

PhxKid92 03-26-2013 01:57 PM

im getting the bench and all the weights this weekend next is power rack

Spec C 03-26-2013 02:02 PM

What are you going to put on the floor?

Spec C 03-26-2013 02:04 PM

This is going to be you Lol

PhxKid92 03-26-2013 02:04 PM

PhxKid92 03-26-2013 02:07 PM

Spec C 03-26-2013 02:15 PM

Go to a feed store and see if they have horse stall mats. Those are nice and thick .

jdmrex1 03-26-2013 02:16 PM

Your buddy is an ass I was just trying to work out..

Lol yea right I woulf never do something like that. :retard:

jdmrex1 03-26-2013 02:18 PM

A home gym is pretty nice.
Reminds me of The League. Were the guy exercisses and watches porn at the same time.

bmxican 03-26-2013 02:21 PM

hhahaha as meat head and cheesy as that setup is, can't lie that the music cranked up and your skinny buddy yelling dont get ya pumped up!

PhxKid92 03-26-2013 02:23 PM

i was looking online for power racks they go any where from 300-500 which isnt bad at all...the mats shouldn't be that expensive right?

SiR Mikey 03-26-2013 02:29 PM

Now THAT would have been awesome to film! What an idiot haha, but then again I expect no less from LA
Make sure to stay away from Marcy, Weider, Golds etc. Craigslist is littered with that shit. You should be able to pick up a cybex or maxicam bench for ~$250 if you're patient
Tractory Supply, I think they're $40

PhxKid92 03-26-2013 02:40 PM

nice thanks for the advice and knowledge fellas, much appreciated

Spec C 03-27-2013 01:36 PM

Hit a big squat PR today. 460 x 3. I won't post the whole workout but squat portion looked like:
Squat:

185 x 5
225 x 2
275 x 1
315 x 1
365 x 1
425 x 1
460 x 3(PR)*added wraps

PhxKid92 03-27-2013 01:42 PM

Spec C 03-27-2013 01:46 PM
