D16y8 water pump b16 gear.

Could I use the d16y8 belt even with the bigger water pump gear? Which belt of not the original? I don't know how far the tensioner can adjust. Also, first timing job ever. I have been reading a lot and fairly competant I can do it. I've done compression tests and leak down tests, so I'm not going into this blind folded. And I have my trusty Haynes manual.

Why does it have a b16 gear? With the matching pump/belts its already a tigh fit, if it's noticeably bigger, no way in hell it will fit.

Also, get rid of that shit manual and download the oem one, its free.

I don't need the bigger gear. Just one of those things I read about and wanted to do. Apparently the b16 has a 22 tooth gear. This causes it to run slower but it will be better at higher rpms over the stock d16 gear.

I understand that, but why? What's the use? Unless your goi g all out squizing every single ounce of power out of you d16 by reducing parasitic loss? If you want to do that then get an electric water pump!

Those alternatives are quite pricey. Is there a definitive answer, if this was done, which timing belt to use?

Im pretty sure all sohc timing belts are the same length, your best bet is to try it and see how much it needs to be. Your best bet is to modify the adjuster itself. At this point I have two reasons why not to do it, 1. Lets say you go through all the trouble of swaping out the gear w/o destroying the pump or having to pay someone to do it, the gains are miniscule. 2. At the end of the day, you are still working with a sohc most likely naturally aspirated right?

What I'm sayin is that it's more trouble than its worth, but if you do it more power to you.
