Emissions thread!!!

Alright I took me ej this second time and still didn't pass. First reading were HC(1.12) , CO(24.38), NOX(3.02) So I put a new dizzy, wires, spark plugs, and starter, and now it read this HC (1.08), CO (15.87), NOX(4.17). What could it be? They told me to check the timing. Anything else should I check for? Am running 91 and didnt do the alcohol myth. So am ???? Any info would help. Thanks.

Read through and get a lot of answers!

Rollin_Eg 07-12-2008 11:39 AM

Thanks man. I went thru some of them but did find anything close to my problem.

jonnymos 07-12-2008 12:28 PM

Definetly check the timing and then check it again! Don't run 91 octane you only need to run 87. If you haven't changed your PCV valve then remove it and shake it, if it doesn't rattle then you need to replace it, that will help a lot(personal experience) regardless of what other people say! Oil change, coolant flush, new air filters! GL

But see the weird thing is that after I changed the dizzy, starter, wires and spark plugs. It didn't wanna run so good. it was running kinda rich so I thought I try 91. So this fucker ran better.... After that, it start over heating so I took out the thermis... fine. It was running great. Ide was normal. It didn't shake or anything. After they ran it again @ emmisions it start to run the same as it was b4. Also my sister took it to the store and put 87 and it sounds like a suba again. Lol I'll check the PVC and the timing. Thanks man.

when i did my car i had no problems... but it was totally stock back then... lol... but the alcohol thing works... or at least i know a few friends that have had problems and we used it and it helped

Rollin_Eg 07-12-2008 03:46 PM

I give that a try once am close to goin again. Can't go thru the weekdays(work).

javidizzle 07-16-2008 03:56 PM

try to check your o2 sensors or the cat convertor cause what the denaturalized alchol does it warms up the cat when the o2 sensors are supposed to do that so check that

taintschwacker 07-19-2008 03:10 PM

check the cat. your co reading tells you the efficiency of your cat. it looks like your cat has failed due to the car running poorly before for a long time. replace it and it will pass most likely.

Devist8 07-24-2008 12:58 PM

Man, Im glad we don't have emissions yet. Hope you figure it out tho.

JoshDC2 07-24-2008 01:18 PM

denatured alcohol doesnt do this.
it just burns very very clean thus helping to reduce the emissions of the engine.

Rollin_Eg 07-31-2008 09:27 AM

Alright guys this is the third try. so here are the previous reading HC-1.08 CO-15.87 NOX 4.17 Now todays reading HC-1.22 CO-9.48 NOX-5.51 Now the standards are HC-1.00 CO-12.00 NOX-2.50. Anyone what this could be??

Rollin_Eg 07-31-2008 10:33 AM

anyone?

JDM_CTR_EK9 07-31-2008 10:40 AM

did you mention that you pulled out the thermostat?...why did you do this again?

Rollin_Eg 07-31-2008 10:42 AM

It was over heating

JDM_CTR_EK9 07-31-2008 10:44 AM

since then have you put it back in the engine? cause even though you remove the thermostat, yes it does cool it down. However, it makes the car over cool and tends to make the vehicle run richer than its supposed to..

Rollin_Eg 07-31-2008 10:50 AM

Oh alright so i guess i have to put it back then. Cause the car starts and it ides kinda high for about 15 seconds. Then goes down back to normal. But how about the nox?

JDM_CTR_EK9 07-31-2008 10:59 AM

as for the NOX....what kinda spark plugs are you running?....

Rollin_Eg 07-31-2008 11:01 AM

Bosh platum there like 3 bucks at autozone

JDM_CTR_EK9 07-31-2008 11:03 AM

ok your runinng a little warmer plug....Bosch is a brannd for Nissan and some Ford and GM models, yeah they have made plugs for Imports, however i recommend even though its pricey but if you want to run better, go with the stock replacement plugs...NGK actually make the car run a few degrees cooler....because NOX is caused by increased temperature in the exhaust gases..

Rollin_Eg 07-31-2008 11:13 AM

Oh alright thanks man i try those couple things and give it another try on sat. Should i run it for awhile b4 i go take it for the test?

JDM_CTR_EK9 07-31-2008 11:17 AM

yes....and also too...most Bosch plugs dont come pregapped...you have to gap them...but yes let the car drive around for a while...

Rollin_Eg 07-31-2008 11:22 AM

Alright thanks man!!
