Main relay? Dizzy? Immobilizer?
I've got a '98 Accord 4 cylinder that's giving me trouble. First symptom of shittyness was the car dying while driving, about 90 seconds after starting it. It restarted after sitting for a minute. I got to my destination (about 10 minutes away) and it died a split second after it started (more like the engine fired once or twice and then died). I gave it a bit of gas while cranking and it started right up and ran great for about 24 hours. It died while cruising again this afternoon.
I'm thinking I'll start w/ the main relay and go from there. Anything else I should be checking? |
Do you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key to the on pisition? Does the cel come on before or after it dies?
|
No CEL and no fuel pump. I did some more testing last night, and I'm thinking it's the ignition switch pigtail. They're prone to failure on the 98-02 Accord (there's even a recall), and while cranking the engine the brake light does not stay on, even w/ the hand brake up.
I think I'm gonna replace the pigtail and main relay tomorrow AM. I have to get into the same panel for both, and since I'm sure this car hasn't had the relay replaced I may as well do it. |
i think the main relay is dizzy from the immobilizer :lama:
