Removing door side moldings

So I’ve never had to do it before, so I wanted to see how other members have done it. I’ve seen 2 different techniques done, Tiger hair (fiber glass) and bondo, and welding sheet metal over the area. Seeing how I don’t want any cracks I’m going to most likely weld it. Post up how you did it and pics. Thanks

Come on people, need some suggestions

Well those really are the only two ways to do it, best being welding in the holes. Now make a How-To and post it up as this is the DIY Section. Be the first to do one for here.

im confused? didnt you say remove?

CB7_PHX 05-04-2011 12:41 PM

ooooooooh hahaah my bad, u mean shave the side moldings, u should weld it, then bondo the rest , if u put just only bondo it will look shitty when it cracks. if you weld it, atleast the vibration will not crack it, just make sure u get somone who knows how to weld or grind, either way haha

sounds like way to much work.

"Blumpkin" 05-05-2011 12:46 PM

Not really.. Its probably one of the easier things that i have to do.

chaosracing05 05-07-2011 09:28 AM

how clean was it when you were done?

Remove the screws holding the vehicle's power window control module to the door panel. If your vehicle has crank style windows, pop the window crank off by wedging the tip of the trim removal tool underneath the base of the window crank and prying up on the crank.

If you're anything like the guy who previously owned my current hatch, (which I hope you're not), just tape over the holes from the bump strips and spray some new paint.:smackself:

what i did with my 94 integra: got some metal adhesive and put sheet metal squares on the inside on the door/rear/fender panels. then used micro filler and putty on the outside really lightly. but integra side moldings are alottt easier

By any chance do you guys know where to get the stick-on side moldings? The doors and front fenders were shaved correctly on my hatch but the rear still has the holes. Dont mean to thread jack op just figured if your sides are shaved and decide on putting the moldings back on you might know.
