Grinding.. Tranny?
I have an eg with a terrible grinding noise. It is a 5 speed d16 and it grinds under acceleration.
It's not the wheel bearing and not the axle. Swapped with known good ones. While coasting or driving at a constant speed I don't hear anything abnormal. But under any amount of acceleration it grinds very loudly. Depressing or releasing the clutch petal doesn't change anything at idle, since there's no noise at idle. Any ideas? |
Pilot bearing?

I imagine that would be more constant.. Realistically either way the tranny has to come out, I just really don't feel like doing it.

Input shaft bearing

I'll be pulling the trans this week, I hope one of you is right and it's not the actual trans.
I'll update when I have an answer |
Wait I just realized you said input shaft bearing, lol. I hope that is not the case.

I recently replaced my transmission because of this issue. My car would grind as soon as I went over 13+ mph. It would go away when I pressed the clutch pedal and come back when I released it.
I figured it was the imput shaft bearing. So I replaced the trans and found out that the throw out bearing was going bad also. |
Replacing the input shaft bearing is relatively easy to do and isn't really expensive to do either. There is a great write up on honda-tech or d-series.org. Just pay attention when you are putting the case back together and make sure that you line up the interlock guide bolt correctly or you won't be able to shift out of 3rd or 4th gear. Lol, I learned that one the hard way. Pretty straight forward to do.
Oh yeah swap passenger and drivers sides when reading this link. It is being done on a RHD is the link. |
Thanks man rare to get good info from azht
