eco tips
hey, lately iv noticed the toll the gas prices have been taking on my bank account, and i gotta start changing my "driving technique" or how ever u refer to it. My question is, is it really true that it robs more petrol when ur coasting in a lower gear rather than a high gear? i'v always seen it as the other way around. Someone please clear this up for me, thanks.

I'd think if you were in a lower gear you'd have to open the throttle wider than in a higher gear.
|
i mean when you coast, like when your not using the throttle. for instance if i go down a steep hill for a while, do i wanna stay in a relatively low gear, or higher gear when im just coasting down the hill. it feels to me like coasting in a higher gear would fatigue the motor a bit

wtf are you talking about??
costs like 20 beans to fill up. ek + sohc w/ ac you should be putting out about 35+ mpg AT LEAST. if ur not then get a tune up and lay off the throttle speed racer... p.s. i'm grumpy this mornin |
LOL i hear that. i was curious about that cash for clunkers and found out my 00 civic si SHOULD (keyword should) be getting like 45mpg highway and like 34 or so on city streets. i mean...given those are just the manufacturers averages and weather, altitude and driver make a difference but im getting nowhere near that hybrid-car status. lol. i just been laying off the throttle all together unless im passing someone or need to catch up to someone or whatever. just my 2 cents

I shift at 2500rpms driving on the street. I'm in 5th gear by 45-50mph.
|
i was getting 38 in the vsm... no reason at all a well maintained single cam not driven by a moron should not be getting well over 30mpg
i'm in 6th in the g by 40mph def was rolling 5th at 40mph on the ek tho |
i usually shift at around 3k or a lil before
i used to speed alot but got tired of eating through gas and worrying about getting pulled over |
cool it mang, i understand its better mpg compared to those big blocks.. but like i said.. the cost is starting to actually effect my bank account having living outside of the district of my school, living a half an hour away from work, it all adds up. Mr speed racer on occasion at the track, but the issue is, there's ways to get better mpg in every car, and my case, driving with a better technique will probably make a good effect on what im spending mang regardless of what i drive.
me? i shift to fifth roughly around 3k, and pop it in neutral on the downhills. |
fuck... so much shit talking up in here damn, i peaced out of this forum for a while and come back with a plausible question to ur same old responses :dumbass:
|
i floor it like a maniac on the freeways and i still get 30mpg in my em1. thats city and freeway combined.
Use your cruise control if you have one |
Calm down man. You did ask kind of a stupid question. First off, when you coast you don't do it in gear, otherwise when you took your foot of the gas the car would begin to slow down (isn't that how you decelerate?) You coast in neutral or in gear with the clutch depressed, and can go as far as to actually turn the car off when you do so. Second, the higher up in the RPM's you are, regardless of gear, the more load you put on the engine, hence the more fuel used, as indicated by that needlessly large fuel map that was posted. Third, if you want better MPG, use your head. The less you put your right foot down, the less fuel you use. Check out ecomodder.com, those guys are absolutely insane with hypermiling
