D-Series Tranny Setup?
What would be the best D tranny for an NA build and a Boosted D?
Right now I have a 96-00 S40 K4F with the D16ZC 3rd and 4th Gears and an OBX LSD. Courtesy of sohcisme. Thanks man. So this kinda makes it similar to the B-Series GSR Tranny...kinda The Gear ratios on the tranny are: 1st 3.25 2nd 1.909 3rd 1.346 4th 1.033 5th 0.072 FD 4.25 My main question is do you think this tranny is suitable for both NA and a boosted D setup because right now my mini me is NA and feels great, but I was worried that if I added more power to the equation will I be wasting time shifting more often? Or does it really just depend on how much power it makes? |
depends not only on how much power you make, but also how well you hook. if you're running at the track, and have big enough slicks to keep traction, i say the shorter the better to an extent |
troof
i would like to add, the gearing you posted sound killer for a boosted setup |
I know! 1st through 4th gears are magical for a NA D-series, and 5th is still extra long for saving gas. I've been saving for a while to get a decent kit, but everytime I get enough something comes up and I put off buying it yet.
I'll probably be getting her tuned by Locash within the next couple weeks once I put my new header/exhaust on. Should be decent numbers for a NA Mini-me. |
you should be golden with that trans on a FI setup
|
I agree. For a boosted car, that 1st-4th should be perfect (depending on your choice of slicks). However, if you are going to come close to topping out 4th in the 1/4, go with a 92-95 DX 4.058 FD.

good as is for a FI setup.
As for N/A not so hawt. the trans will be craving a aftermarket FD badly. exxo 4.7 possibly 4.9 would pull a premium before race wars. |
