Need help on emissions
I took my 95 integra to get emissions today and fail. My hydrocarbons was 1.08 and to pass i need it to be below 0.80. I also failed oxides of nitrogen with a 3.29 and i need a 2.00 to pass. What can i do to get my car to pass? any info would help.

agreed, adj valves, new plugs, change oil and make sure the cat is nice and hot when doing the test just my 2 cents
|
no cel
valves was adjusted recently, new spark plugs and wires recently also, and had to wait in line for about 30 mins. so cat might of cooled down. a friend told me to put in 91 gas with a few bottle of rubbing alcohol. anyone ever done this? |
no but trust me get that cat new put some miles in it so it worms up nd do that full tune up nd ull be good cuz mainly the thing that f*cks it up is a bad cat
|
Anyone every tries seafoam?

Buy a gallon of denatured alcohol from home depot. Put it in when you are at quarter tank and drive straight to emissions. Hopefully its about a 20 min trip cuz yes you want your cat nice and hot. If you have to drive more than 20 minutes then wait til your closer to put it in. This will decrease you HC's. For your NOx pull your #1 injector. Car will run like shit for a few minutes til you're done. Its worked for me for years. Good luck!!

if anything run the cheapest gas possible, this will be easier to ignite (91 is more stable). HC is due to not burning your fuel properly and having raw unburnt fuel in the exhaust. Making it more difficultt to ignite will further the issue.
NO can run from a lean mixture causing high engine temps. So can HC, if you run too lean you dont properly burn and you could get say a lean backfire in the exhaust etc due to unburnt fuel. Adding alcohol will lean the mixture further causing even higher HC and NO rating. I wouldn't do this personally. If you are running too rich or detonating, the Alch helps stabilize the fuel & lean the mixture out. Read these articles: And as said before make sure your cat is nice and warm. |
Also note that alcahol stoich is at 9:1 ratio, vs gasoline at 14.7:1 ratio. This means it requires ~ 30+% additional fuel to not lean out. If you add alcohol you will lean out, increase temperatures, decrease efficiency, increase HC, increase NO etc.

will give this a try tomorrow.

unplug battery for a bit then drive it about 100 miles then test it. worked for me obd2 tho
|
Two totally different tests for obd1 and obd2 vehicle...
If you do get a new cat like said get it warm by either driving on the freeway before you test or I've always just kept it idling at 2k rpms while waiting if there is a line. |
i wish my car was a obd2!
hard parts is locating a cat lol.. thanks for the sunglasses bro. |
going to the emissions today. hope i pass!

Mine was similar last time. Found out O2 wAs bad and had ruined cat also. Replaced cat still failed, then found O2.
|
yeah that 02 sensor also replace it but get it new at vatozone that will help that nd a full tune up with a new cat nd make sure its set on the correct timing i think with all that it should pass
