*official K series thread*

well didnt see one of these so thought i would make one... i know it would help me since i am about to start the journey of building a k series eg hatch..

my first question is if i want to put a k20a2 head on my k24a4 do i need to change the pistons or willl it be good with the stock pistons?

second anyone know of a good place to port polish and freshen up a head?

and 3rd if i put individual throttle bodys on it would it clear my hood?..'

and 4th y is the 6spd trans prefered over the 5spd?

lol thats it for know but im sure i will have several more in the future

thanks in advance for any constructive or postive helpfull anwers:cool:

1) yes, and if i remember correctly that head/block combo is one of the harder of the frankenstein swaps

2) i had a head done by s & s machine back in the day

3) no they won't for a k series

4) depending on the 6 speed it could have an lsd in it, they all have a better over all final drive...although depending on the application the 5 speed wouldn't be all that bad of an idea (talking price wise)

thanks man haha sorry i bored u but that helped out .... i was thinking i could use the stock internals but have read that u could and u couldnt so i wasnt sure:wave:

honduh_head 02-26-2009 02:08 PM

actually you CANNOT use the k24a4 block with stock pistons and k20a2 head.

does.
not.
work.

you need TSX pistons or aftermarkets.

or just get a k24a1 block instead.

1FastVX 02-26-2009 02:28 PM

lol welllll fuckkkk idk now i want new pistons anyways..... and i already have the complete motor just want to have a frankenstein

1FastVX 02-26-2009 02:34 PM

K24 w/ K20 Cyl Head 87.00mm (Standard Bore) 13.7:1
K24 w/ K20 Cyl Head 87.00mm (Standard Bore) 8.8:1
ok so next ? then if im lookin at pistons which compression ratio would be what i need for my app...?? i have a k24a4 that i am putting a k20a2 head on?

mixxxwell 02-27-2009 12:09 AM

if you are looking for headwork PM me

1FastVX 02-27-2009 04:43 AM

pm'd

honduh_head 02-28-2009 01:29 AM

if you're going aftermarket i would shoot for anywhere between 11.5-12.5 to 1 compression for good all motor power.

1FastVX 02-28-2009 06:02 PM

thanks alot man! ur feedback has been helping me out alot:goodpost:

The compression your aiming for depends on what you will be doing with the engine.

Is it going to stay N/A? Or is it going to be boosted?

If N/A you will want a higher compression ratio, but not any higher than 12.5, because much higher than that and you will just be de-tuning the car to run it on our shitty 91 octane out here.

If boosted, then yah go 10.5 or 9.0 or 8.8. The lower compression is best run with turbo applications.

Also if you are going N/A I suggest the 6-speed. It is a more aggressive transmission, plus its just cool to have a 6th gear. lol

While your at it, because the engine is not in the car yet, take the time to work on and complete little upgrades.

First and for most, a good option and upgrade is to change oil pump out. A k20 oil pump will flow more and better in the higher rpm than the crappy k24 one. If you can change this out.

mixxxwell 03-01-2009 09:20 AM

if you have chance to use e85 i would choose the 13.7:1 thats just me tho

1FastVX 03-01-2009 04:58 PM

well its not going to be boosted but i do have a nitro set up for it so most likley will be setting it up for that

josh 03-01-2009 05:05 PM

1. no, valves will hit the pistons..

2. no need to port and polish a k series head it flows awesome, look at fresh manny21 car its has like 900hp with a stock head and cams

3. yes but you would have to notch the mounts a bit with the k24.

4. 6 speed have closer gearing better for n/a.. 5 speed have longer gearing which is better for boosted cars

Mr.Burner 03-01-2009 11:37 PM

^ nuff siad there

I have a k in my 00si and it rips apart new GT's...those heads flow like 300cfm from the factory if i remeber correctly..
it takes thousands of dollars to get a b series head there.

honduh_head 03-02-2009 12:10 AM

if you are going to n2o the car, i would shoot for around 10 to 1 compression and do like a 150 shot direct port ;)

1FastVX 03-02-2009 06:29 AM

even soo. if i have it ported and polished that will make it flow so much better right?

josh 03-02-2009 06:00 PM

yeah if they know what there doing. it will make more power but theres no need to drop a grand for it and i wouldnt trust anyone in az to do it

mixxxwell 03-04-2009 12:32 AM

send it my sponsor steve@cccylinderheads and you will be amazed.... i would go K if i didnt have so much damn money invested in H

Mr.Burner 03-04-2009 12:38 AM

no need to.......people are making over 300 with a unported head, spend the 1000+ bucks on itb's or a nice LIGHT set of rods.

Like Josh said..

Mr.Burner 03-04-2009 12:44 AM

this is how my set up will soon be....its a 2.4L crower or manley I-beam rods...12-1 comp cp's, manley valves, springs, retainers. RBC intake...or custom.. with the S head of course..

my 2.0L S is already a monster, i couldnt imagine the new set up...we'll see.

1FastVX 03-04-2009 04:43 AM

damn! nice setup...im still missing alot lmao so far i just got the k24 with a k20 head:( got a long ways to go...but my taxes should be hittning any day lol then ima get the trans out of the way and the hondata k pro

Mr.Burner 03-04-2009 02:33 PM

ya trans and k-pro are $$$$$$$$

you should just do pistons and rods with tune if your on a budget....

you still need mounts, harness (02-04 type S only) conversion harness, ECU, axles, cables and shifter box, header..damn

Mr.Burner 03-04-2009 06:50 PM

Thanks shawn, i'm workin on it!

1FastVX 03-10-2009 05:44 AM

is hondata kpro the only program that is available for doing a k series swap?? or are there any others out there?

josh 03-10-2009 06:06 AM

no. you can use aem ems

1FastVX 03-10-2009 10:43 AM

wich one is better in your opinion? i see that the aem cost more lol

josh 03-10-2009 12:06 PM

ive only had kpro and with the upgrades and everything hondata has changed i think its better BUT ive never used aem so
