Valve Cover Cutting

Anyone in town do plasma cutting? I want to get the timing belt area chopped off. Any recomendations? Thanks

josh 01-21-2009 07:57 PM

use a dremel

oh and dont cut the timing belt..

integrax97 01-21-2009 08:28 PM

Ummmm the valve cover is off the motor. And a dremel is nice and all but id rather have a pro do it!

f

i would use a band saw or a cut off wheel. It will clog the disk up but it should be good enough for that size of cut.

Chris hit me up my neighbor does it....

just use a grinder. thats how I did mine

a grinder or cut off wheel will do a much cleaner job then a plasma cutter. you can do this yourself with as good of results as any "professional".

azjared 03-23-2009 09:21 AM

i would think a grinder would work fine if you take your time and just clean up any uneven parts after

theAngryMarmot 03-23-2009 09:36 AM

just use a dremel or a grinder with a cut-off wheel, la a tape line where you want it to be cut, and go slow and steady
Plasma cutter would be the wrong choice for cutting that.

mr.DUNK 03-23-2009 09:37 AM

Fuck cut the timing side off completely like I did...

crtEG6 03-26-2009 05:01 PM

plasma cutter does a better cutting job than a grinder by far!

i use a mill and just take enough material off to remove the end of the cover. a plasma cutter is a HORRIBLE way to do it. a grinder with a .040 thick cut off wheel will also do just be careful when using that thin of a cutoff wheel, if you lean on it sideways too much the cut off wheel will explode and you will most likely cut a few of your fingers. below is a b series i did. good luck

I would not use plasma or dremmel

jakellama123 05-13-2009 10:15 PM

just be careful and don t do it all boondock status lol

dustinda 06-15-2009 06:54 PM

its aluminum it will probably worp with a plasma cutter
