looking at lowering the hatch on a budget

So i chopped the rear springs down and i got lowering springs from an evo. My problem is that the front evo springs are way to big, but the back ones look like they will work. I should be good right? Im gonna ride out like this till my broke ass can afford coil overs lol

Rocky 08-22-2012 09:49 AM

they are like 40 bucks.

EFHatch1991 08-22-2012 09:51 AM

like i said im a broke ass lol. i gotta save the majority of my money for college next month i gotta drive out to wyoming from east mesa

Your going to have to buy coils or just cut the stock ones on the car... thats what i did on my saturn and accord it looks killer...

EFHatch1991 08-22-2012 12:58 PM

you don't think the evo springs will work? they look damn near identical. how rough does the saturn ride?

!!AZ94cd5!! 08-22-2012 01:05 PM

I dont think i would try the evo springs i dont think its a smart idea... i had a friend try to put mix matched coils on his ef and they popped out of place and just slammed the car and blew the tire cause the edge of the coil dug into the sidewall on the tire... so i dont think its a good idea... just either cut up oem ones or wait till you get coils...

Well considering it is running so low... bouncy as hell... I love the stance and i love the way it looks but its just a rough ride... the accord though rides amazing still even though its like 2 inches off the ground...

Post pics of the evo ones next to stock?

MIRANDA88 08-22-2012 03:47 PM

Lol dam ricers.

Dedspool Superior Tuned 08-25-2012 08:02 PM

wtf!? your really going to cut springs or fuck up your handling components for a look? plus you plan on driving out to Wyoming like that?

if you can not afford $40 than don't bother at all. the damage will be more than $40

C.R.A.Y. 08-25-2012 08:07 PM

Buschur racing runs 9's on cut springs :)

kerosinek 08-25-2012 08:14 PM

If you cant afford $50-60 for lowering springs, you have bigger problems to worry about than lowering your car.

failedabortion 08-25-2012 10:34 PM

Bet they have a higher iq than the op also.

GT489 08-28-2012 11:38 AM

2 inches off the ground? pffffft will be fine in blizzard conditions. its ok op live your ricer dreams out

!!AZ94cd5!! 08-28-2012 11:47 AM

I like my low accord... i would like it lower but i dont know if its a good idea... i have a hard enough time getting into parking lots and speed bumps... looks sick but not to functional...

Ricer dreams they come and go and one day you will just look at it and start looking for oem parts or jdm parts... do wanna see pics of your hatch...

Chuck Chainz 08-28-2012 11:52 AM

dont listen to these idiots, cut them!
I bet more than half on here have cut springs but front sayin... "uhh, i have eibachs."

j/k

EFHatch1991 08-28-2012 12:16 PM

ill post pics up when all said and done with before and after shots. i will also take a pic of the evo springs next to the stocks

EFHatch1991 08-28-2012 12:17 PM

your right bud, i do. i have these things called medical bills that like to build up do to my liver trasnplant.

GT489 08-28-2012 02:28 PM

spoon sports on the itr and h&r on the m3. no cut bs here. if youcant afford to do it right save up till you can.

!!AZ94cd5!! 08-28-2012 02:39 PM

well i will be one to admit i like my accord cut coils and it rides well... so i mean... if you can cut them for a temp thing i say do it... i am cutting mine more cause i wanna get the right stance and then find a set of coils that will match what i have...

EFHatch1991 08-28-2012 03:41 PM

yeah i might just cut them but not too much till i can afford some coil overs

Fix.it.again.Tony 09-03-2012 08:00 PM

From experience and lack of funds before.... i can honestly say if done right cut springs dont really change much for ride quality.... they do take a bigger toll on your shocks and what not though.... ANYWAYS.... IF you are going to do it.... do it right.... when you take the spring off the car rem what side is top and which is bottom.... when you cut the spring cut from the bottom portion of the sprign i did about 1 3/4 coils on my crx.... mount it back in and see where its at ride height wise.... if you are pleased leave it be if not take it apart again and cut 1/4 coil at a time till you get the ride height you are looking for then use the portion of the cut spring as a measure ment its safe to say you want all springs at about the same hieght so you dont have a drooping side i used a level on the trunk roof and hood on my crx to make sure it was even.... remember you have to flatten out the bottom of the cut potion so it seats on the shock correctly. and dont forget to trim the bump stop on the shock as it will tend to hit once its dropped more then an inch... gets some extended top hats made at the same time if you know anyone able to make them for you....

like i said done correctly it can be a very cheap and effective way to lower you cars profile if you are not looking at high aggressive driving like on a track...

Hope this helps....

EFHatch1991 09-07-2012 08:01 AM

well now i have other problems with the hatch. the guy i got it from "rebuilt" the top end but when i took the valve cover off there wasnt even a gasket so thats problem number one. number two i drove it to work yesterday and it seemed just fine, but when i got off work to go and start it up it wouldn't turn over. so after i got towed home i tried to start it again, it turned over for a brief second then died out? thinking fuel pump, but it hasn't had any stutters at all, so makes me think i may not be getting enough spark. So im just going to this weekend get a new cap and rotor wires plugs and the gasket and pray to god thats all it is.

But if it is my fuel pump, anybody have an extra one laying around? lol

drhonda09 09-14-2012 12:25 AM

Is your fuel pump priming before u try to start it? It could be the main fuel relay (its located inside, lower left by hood release) its common for that to give out on the older hondas.

I thought this was the "How To:" "DIY" Section? as it does say to post any useful DIY's here..........

IS-Frank 09-14-2012 11:00 PM

Now it turned into a wtb thread......also man just don't do anything to the cat just leave it the way it is if you fuck something up im guessing you wont have the money to fix it....so just leave it alone like they say if it aint broke don't fix it

failedabortion 09-15-2012 12:05 AM

Instead of guessing and throwing parts at it...nevermind

emw2772000 09-15-2012 02:38 PM

shoot come give me your stock suspension an ill give u coil overs an lowering springs

EM1 jooowizzzle 09-16-2012 04:39 PM

from my experiences, the cheapest way ive lowered a car was to completely remove the spring. and presto! super dumped at the cost of an hour of your life
