Broken hood latch cable makes Kyle sad...
So.... long story short, how can I pop my hood without a cable and without damaging the hood or bumper? Anyone?
Where did it break? If it's at the latch you're in a bind, if in the cabin you can pull back the front fender liner and get a hold of the cable and pull on it to unlatch.
The end that goes into the latch came out of the latch somehow.
bummer dude. I'll look at mine and see if I can see a way.
I opened up my hood and was able to slip my hand between the slots in the bumper and get a feel for the latch while looking but could not get enough movement to get it to unlatch with the hood closed. If you know someone with an EG and some time you could study the mechanism and maybe get it to unlatch with a screw driver or some other tool.
Sorry man. |
just look at someone else's latch.. look for where the cable goes.. pull on that on your car.. good luck
Check post #3, he said the cable came loose from the latch, so pulling the cable will not do any good.
Well fuck.
didnt i tell you all this :all_coholic:
Sure did. I was hoping there was something you DIDN'T know that might help... Guess not... I have NO fucking clue what I'm going to do here... seriously streesing me out to the max...
hmm try jacking the front of the car up then u'll be able to slip ur hand thru behind the bumper to unlatch it
on the EF you can take the front bumper off without opening the hood, is this the same for the EG, i never had to take my bumper off the hatch so i don't have experience with that. My guess is if chris said you're Eff'd than you are in fact Eff'd.
nope, EGs have bolts in the bumper that run along under the front edge of the hood.
When my del sol's cable broke I reached up and couldn't get the latch to move with my hand, but using a screwdriver or something longer and thinner than my fat white-dude hands I was able to just get the latch to release  |
^ yeah i was going to say if you could bend a coat hanger to a tight strong loop you could get a hold of it and pull it to the side which is how they normall open.
correct and i told kyle all this ^
he is just looking for the easy way out :bananalama: |
lol... he should know like i said chris, if you told him he's screwed, he is.
If there's no A/C he might. Mine has A/C and i couldn't get to it except through the bumper opening.
you can get a short 10 socket with a little ratchet and extension and get in between the hood and bumper and unbolt the latch. i took mine to the mechanic after i got my front end fixed after a fender bender and the repair shop didnt put the cable in the latch. so the mechanic just did that and the hood opened right up. you just have to some how open the latch after because it'll still be attached to the hood
The problem is, I can't get to the latch even DOING what Chris said to do, so HA!
You can pull on my cable Kyle, <3 your fellow misathrope.
try it! it worked on my eg! |
how did u get the 10mm socket under the hood please explain what u did becuz i look at mine and yeah i couldnt even do it with a 10 rachet wrench
You have to go in through the air hole in the bumper. If you're hands aren't too big you can fit them through. I can. He'll just need another EG to look at so he knows where to go. He'll have to do it all by feel.
^^ no... you get a SHORT 10mm socket for your smallest ratchet along with an extension and small ratchet. that small gap between the bumper and hood, you start from the headlight and slide the side with socket down the gap til you get to bolt. meaning there will be just enough room for the socket to be under the hood. which is why you need an extension
maybe on an ef but i dnt see that working the bumper flush with the hood unless u were in an accident and it gave u enough room to do whatever your saying
i did this with my EG man. 94 dx coupe. i've already said this. yea its not that big of a gap, which is why i said the LITTLEST ratchet. idk what size it is, but the littlest ratchet with the skinniest extension
What hes saying is take a 1/4 inch ratchet with a 1/4 extension and a 1/4 10 millimeter socket stick it between the fins of the bumper starting at the far end and slide it to where the latch release bolts are. I have seen the fins and they are plenty big enough for a 1/4inch socket extension and ratchet to fit through
thank you... |
o ok
