99 Ex timing/compression help

Happy Friday y'all

Okay, so long story short…

2000 civic Ex, manual.

Timing tensioner bolt snapped in half while I was driving and the car died…originally thought it was the timing belt that snapped but it just started jumping teeth due to no tension. So, I went and bought a new timing belt, tensioner, and water pump and slapped them on. Then did what I thought was correct to set the timing but was not certain… (went with the first thing I found on YouTube) probably wasn’t the best idea…I’m aware.

Anyways…put everything back together and started her up, and she started idling very low. Check engine light came on, CODE P1399. “Random Cylinder Misfire Detected”

So I originally thought I just set the timing wrong, until I did a compression test and piston 1 came back at 50 psi… So I guess my next question is, can the timing be set incorrectly and cause the compression to be off by that much???

Just hoping I don’t have to rebuild or replace the motor…not the most mechanically inclined person but I’m trying! Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Sounds like you may have had piston and valve contact . Possible bent valve .
