How to clean Engine
 

I was wonder what is the best way to clean your engine and your engine bay? Can you just pressure wash it, if you dont get it in your intake?

got to autozone they got a good degreaser its liquid don't get the jell 1 it says original on the can. use atleast 2 cans. you can pressure wash it just don't spray the Throtle body, alternator, and fuse box and you will be ok. make sure the car is on

If you use a plastic bag to cover your intake and distributor you can pressure wash your engine and bay. I did on my prelude with no problems. You just have to be careful when spraying..

Some type of engine degreaser let sit for a few minutes then presure wash it at a do it yourself carwash.

I've seen people destroy distributors and alternators with pressure washers.... Just because it didnt ruin it this time doesn't mean it's safe. Just get a good brush some engine brite, maybe a little brake clean and go to town.

I pressure wash my engine atleast once a month. I cover my air intake and distributor. I also use compressed air at work to blow all the water off right after i spray it down too. i make sure it is dry as soon as i am done. been doin this for years and never had a problem with it.

The problem comes from old or broken connectors getting water into them and slowly corroding after washing away whatever grease was in there from the factory. Not to mention distributors, alternators, cruise control modules, sensors, etc.

Newer cars are much safer to pressure wash. Just remember that just cuz it looks great when ur done, doesn't means that evil water/solvents are in there eatin away at shit. The older a car is, and the more work done on it, the more there is a chance for water ingress in the wrong places.

never had a problem pressure washing... although i only shoot the block and trans, nothing above that.

that is very true. Atleast once a week i have a car come in to my bay cause the detailers pressure spray the engines on low maintenance trade in's and i am having to clean out and die electric greasing sparkplug wires or injector connectors from water. Once a year i unplug all fmy connectors and clean them with electrical parts cleaner and die electric grease my connectors except the main harness connectors or the larger multiwire connectors. Plus after i clean my engine i use cd2 engine detailer. Its silcone based so it doesnt soak into the insulation on the wires but keeps them from getting brittle. B

P-P-P-P-Purple Power! I use a rag and wrap it tight around my fingers. Spray rag, rub, change to clean spot on rag.
