Pros and Cons on owning a S2000

:hi: Hey guys and girls I'm looking into buying a S2k real soon, so I need to know some facts on that beautiful beast. Like, what are the benefits of owning that kind of car. You see, I owned Integras for 8 years of my life and now it's time to move on. I've always loved the
s2k, but never thought of owning one and now that my dc got stolen I need a new car. Your info and knowledge would be very appreciated.:but: What are the differences between the two chasis codes you guys mentioned.

cowboi 01-26-2007 09:27 PM

well i love my s2k and its just a fun car to drive and its nicely done from honda.... and for me i benefit from a 2 seater cuz i aint gatta take the whole crew.

ive honetly only had one downside wit the car is that the freaking trunk is smallller than a mother....well that and parts r stupid expensive... but other than that dude i love the s2k..suspension is dope stock...quick...sexy...and ur hair can blow in da wind..haha

and the 2 difference is

00-03 ap1
redlines at 9k, f20c 2.0 liter.

04-07 ap2
redlines at 8k, f22 2.2 liter..so more torque and its a little faster than the ap1s

parts difference..front/rear lights, seats, wind deflecter, gauge, center counsel (ap2s have leather haha), exaust, rims, and i think tha suspension is done a little better on the ap2s. and thats all i can think of right now..i hope that helps...

Well the s2000 is an "amazing machine" But at the same time, Your stepping into a completely different ball game. Reason being, The mods are much more expensive, And there isnt a ton of selection. Also wheel shopping is also a little hard, and if you dont want work or volk or prodrive wheels, then your kind of stuck. Im all for nice quality JDM parts but at the same time, im just going with AP2 wheels for this season because i cannot afford baller wheels.

Pros: Stock the has lots of power- You Rev to 9k stock- You drive an s2000- RWD- Great Track car- Perfect=Stock- Hard top option- Staggered Wheels stock- Convertable- And a million other reasons- Obove 190whp stock-

Cons- Dont get stuk in the snow- Weak Rear End- Not enough options for mods ( IMO) And a few other things....

But glad to hear someone else is buying the best Honda. My next car after the S2 is an NSX. Soooo its a great stepping stone!

RicoD 01-27-2007 01:04 AM

It's slow, understeers, and everyone that doesn't really know it thinks it's a Miata....

but I like it :) lol

Consider this,

RicoD 01-28-2007 11:26 AM

While impressive, the S2K shines more on the twisty roads rather than a straight line

cheesefries 01-28-2007 04:57 PM

you dont get shit for the money

HalfTypeR Eg6 01-28-2007 06:03 PM

Inline Pros new project is to build a 9 sec s2000!

Cannot wait!

cowboi 01-28-2007 06:05 PM

on da track the s2k will OWN...

HalfTypeR Eg6 01-28-2007 06:07 PM

Yeah i cannot even image having a 700-800whp S2000, that runs 9's. You could call out supras!

GNU 01-29-2007 11:52 PM

yeah just get a nissan rearend in that. full race turbo manifold mated with a gt40r

2k5:s2k 01-30-2007 01:06 PM

I agree and my next car will also (hopefully) be the NSX. If I were you I would also look into getting a quote on insurance before you buy any car.

jdmish_roots 01-30-2007 01:18 PM

^^^^ i completley disagree with this... there are so many modding options to go with the s2000!! maybe more so than any other car have you ever visited bulletproof automotive and check out the on going list of mods that are available for this car?!?!?!?1 as for wheels you can go with a hell of a lot more options than work volk or prodrive?!?! seriously just need to learn offset and sizing with wheels and there are many possiblities.... if you cant find any just ask me and i will be more than happy to show you what i mean... and teach people the ropes... and not all have to be baller type wheels i paid way less for my second set of wheels then what your going to pay for some stock ap2 wheels... just have to be patient and lucky...and have the knowledge of whats available...

i love my s2000 i have wanted it since i was 15... and my next car too will be an nsx... just be sure to have a backup car if you have a family... or need things moved or things like that...

apSquidFace 02-05-2007 02:02 PM

are you sure you own an s2000???

enigmadsm 02-05-2007 04:49 PM

pros- 9k redline, 2seater, vert, sexy
cons- a lot of road noise, expensive mods, um...

my next car will hopefully be an NSX too

ZonaAltima 02-06-2007 03:41 PM

Well, the s2k certainly is a nice car. Are you sold on getting it, or another Honda, or just looking for a change of car scenery? Are you into 2 seaters, coupes, or just fast well built cars?

If you are looking new, personally, there are SEVERAL cars I would rather have at the 32K price tag, (including 2 more doors, more trunk space, wider selection of available mods, and slightly faster stock, see where I am going? ;) ) but maybe that is just me. Good luck with it! ;)

da0NE2nv 02-06-2007 05:52 PM

Thanx everyone, for sharing your knowledge, I have learned alot from ya'll. As far as your questions go, I am a die hard honda fan, and I have gotten my insur. quotes(140mo). Thanx again.

Daddy_Digital 02-07-2007 12:27 AM

if ur a tall guy likeme, ur not gonna be comfortable. i work for honda and i jus sat in one and i didnt like how i had to sit up super straight jus to extwnd my legs somewhat straight. its a nice ride, tho. as a salesman, i will tell u this..ur insuraqnce will go up. its a sports car. u cant ewven take an s2k out for any old test drive like a civic. u got to be buying it to test drive. yea, the parts to modifiy it are expensive too. pros..rear wheel drive, not many out on the road like a civic or accord. its a classy car, plus u still get good gas mileage.

enigmadsm 02-07-2007 12:52 AM

mines for sale btw..

cowboi 02-07-2007 12:54 AM

s2k owns....

michalo187 02-07-2007 02:53 PM

I just bought an s2000 Saturday, so far I love everythig but the trunk space. Other than that i think its perfect stock! It handles like a dream, and it looks baller. Mine is an 05 white ap2 with ssr rims

shawnRs914 03-07-2007 10:58 AM

Acura TL type S ???

gt30r 03-07-2007 02:54 PM

$37,000 base for a slow ass TL, did you buy one?

fivesfe 03-07-2007 08:41 PM

still expensive, they want like 3 grand just for the stuff to be able to mount the rear end.

Guerillah 03-07-2007 10:49 PM

2500 and they are coming out with a cheaper kit soon. takes money to play.

gt30r 03-07-2007 11:54 PM

$2695. + $200./$300. for the diff. you're right at $3000. Add another $1000. to upgrade the clutch & flywheel and you got a bomb proof driveline.

yosshaa 04-05-2007 05:31 PM

pros: ho's like em, they are reliable, good looks, they are track worthy out of the box.

cons: stereo isn't all that great, if your fat or too tall it's uncomfortable.
but mainly, morons that don't have them will point out every flaw and say (insert shit box car and amount of money here) would be better.

for the money, low 20's you get a kick ass car with a warranty that is already to step on the track and run 1:14's around pir all day... and drive home at the end of the day.

GT489 09-04-2007 06:42 PM

well as far as the 2 cars go i have a ap1 and have yet to be beaten by the "faster" ap2 with equal mods the ap1 has a more harsh power dilevery but the ap2 has like 6 more lbs of torque and makes power over a longer rev range its all driver preference either way watch were u park the car cause people want those seats and steering wheel

Owens 09-06-2007 02:25 PM

Well, I can't give you stats on how much HP its capable of, or how much toque and stuff...

Pro's

The s2000 is a nice convertible with the sports car style, and big touch of professionalism for a very reasonable price, along with Honda's renowned long lasting reliability.

Bad

Theres really not much space in it. I'm 5'8, 145 pounds, and I personally felt a little cramped in it.

raffi 01-18-2008 12:20 AM

i just picked up an 04 with only 16k miles for 19k! at that price the only other honda i would be able to purchase is a civic si.....needless to say this is a much better car.. i just got rid of my 2004 volkswagen r32 and always wanted an s2000 but always thought they were too slow... surprisingly, the car isnt that slow and like someone mentioned above, the twisties is where it gets fun... there is no other car in the 20k category that would beat the s2000...other than a 1990 acura nsx...2cents
