vx rear disc brake conversion question?

what car can a i get the 40/40 prop valve from? will the one from the teg i sourced the brakes from work?

Colten79 07-20-2010 03:18 PM

yes it will..
does your car have abs? does the teg have abs?
is your car non-abs? is the teg non-abs?
as long as your car is the same as the teg

nope. so im golden. also what brake master cylinder should i use? ive heard you need to upgrade to a bigger one

EFfective 07-23-2010 11:36 AM

you dont have to replace the master cylinder for the disc conversion but using a larger master cyl. from an ex or type r will improve breaking and pedal feel. you will also need to replace the brake booster in order to run either of those masters tho.

TypeREgg 07-23-2010 11:44 AM

i got my 40/40 from a DA integra and i replaced my brake booster with an itr one with mbigger cyl and the brakes are very touchy n feel nice as fuuuu

HEADSHOT 07-23-2010 11:58 AM

there are a few ex's at the junk yard. my master cyclinder is letting a bit of fluid back through to the pedal side and is causeing serious brake fade. and will even let go completley if im stopped on a hill for more then 10 seconds. nothing like pumping your brakes just to stick around...lol

cmerlo22 07-23-2010 12:12 PM

I converted all my breaks to a teg rear & legend front, but did not replace the break boster, breaks feel fine, is it realy needed to replace the break boster.

TypeREgg 07-23-2010 12:16 PM

you guys will thanks urself for replacing it trust me!

cmerlo22 07-23-2010 12:23 PM

why? I dont mean to desrespect, just curious regarding the reason.

TypeREgg 07-23-2010 01:04 PM

...bcuz ur car was not meant to have rear disk frm the factory???
if u notice the cars with all disk the booster and cyl is BIGGER! it makes up for stopping power but if stopping isnt ur thing then keep ur stock booster/cyl just dont come cryin when u rear end someone cuz ur car couldnt stop a few feet away

cmerlo22 07-23-2010 05:29 PM

makes sence, I installed the dual piston calipers in the front n have not had any problems since then this was like 2 years ago, but will work ont he booster, which would be best for my car, teg rear, dual piston front/ 40/40 prop valve & 1" master cylinder.

HEADSHOT 07-25-2010 06:20 AM

if i was going to source out a new master cylinder and booster. what car should i get it from?

cmerlo22 07-25-2010 07:35 AM

Gsr master cylinder 1"

JDM Jon 07-25-2010 11:00 AM

Make sure it's non abs.

TypeREgg 07-25-2010 01:18 PM

x2 on this

EFfective 07-26-2010 12:52 PM

i'm not sayong its not a good idea to upgrade, but what you said is not always true,
90-91 crx si has rear disks and the master and booster are the same part no. as the 90-91 civic which came with rear drums, the only difference was the prop valve

my opinion; when it comes to brakes, buy new parts rather than trying to find what your looking for in a wrecking yard. and x3 on the gsr 1 inch master cyl but be advised, you will need to use an adapter in order to attach your factory lines to the master cyl as the fittings on the gsr will be larger than your oem fittings

HEADSHOT 07-26-2010 03:46 PM

well i cant find new anywhere, i dont trust autozones reman shit and im not gonna pay that much for part from honda

EFfective 07-27-2010 12:25 AM

i get mine from BAP, i've been using them for years without any issues

tyrap26 07-27-2010 09:12 AM

carquest, napa....pm me with info, year gsr etc.. i get pretty great prices at carq. maybe i could help you out if they stock it

TypeREgg 07-27-2010 10:59 AM

if ur gonna source a booster/cyl from a junk yard look for leaks other than that it should be fine just make sure u cut the bigger fittings off so u can use them on ur car

HEADSHOT 07-27-2010 04:10 PM

doubt im gonna find a gsr in the junk yard. ill have to find a ebayer with a good seller rating.

TypeREgg 07-27-2010 04:16 PM

try n find out if the boosters are all the same on the tegs then just get 1" master cylinder

JDM Jon 07-27-2010 05:16 PM

The problem with that anyway is that you'll have to bend your brake lines... correct me if I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure the lines will not match right to an integra mc.

Bruticus 08-05-2010 12:04 AM

15/16ths from a 91 EX Civic, 1" is too big from my view

aaron 08-06-2010 09:52 PM

this guy is right!!!
i did the conversion to my 93 coupe,
bought the master from Honda, not as expensive as you would think!!!! and brand new!!
pedal feels SO awesome!!! you wont have to change you booster at all!
do this master, trust me!
you will love it.
ps
if you want to see pictures of the rear brakes and the larger master,
my coupe is in the for sale threads under 93 coupe for sale,
good luck
