Purchasing a new camera

So im pretty much sold on the nikon d7000. anyone have any experience with said camera as well if u have please include what lens you used and why. Also, any cons to the camera that u may have stumbled across. If there is any other cameras equivalent and u would recommend them that would be great too. thanks guys and let the discussion begin. o and one more question whats the difference between nikon dx and fx format

lol @ what lens i used and why. thats more of a seminar than a single paragraph :P make a thread in the photography section to start.

if you want i can always give you some help via phone... you might not need such a fancy camera most people put them to waste.

how much am i looking at for the d5100. i mean this will be first "professional" camera if u will. maybe this would be a good start for me ha i dunno thats why i came on here for opinions

If you want seminar read any of my othe roosts in the photography section when the last 5-10 people asked the exact same question.

Simplified version: All DSLR's will look the same in the end, they all have nearly the same image quality, and will make the same photo. A prosumer camera will just be easier to change settings and make adjustments with some "premium" features but in the end it still takes the same photo.

Lens depends on what you need to take a photo of, i have a 10-22, 35/2, 24-70/2.8L, 85/1.8, 70-200/4L, basically i range from 10-200mm so i can zoom in as much as i need, and crop out the background as needed. This is more of a basic "photography" 101 deal. Get a cheap camera, get a 50mm 1.8 lens to start with, use that for 6+ months and move on.

If your going to be casual don't buy the D7000 just get something cheap, its a waste of money to buy a fancy camera. 90% of people who go to buy a camera buy an expensive one. I don't know if your expecting to get into this as a hobby, if its your first camera, first digital camera, first REAL camera, or what. Tell us what you plan on doing.

I remember seeing a kid buy a 5D MK II as his first camera and didn't have a lens, he went out and got a 50/1.8... and used it for the first day at santan meet i told him to call me when he got bored of it (and he did with a decent offer price too... it sold 2 weeks before i had the cash :( )

toocool4u 02-08-2012 12:07 PM

no need to bash i requested to have this put in the photography forum like i said for the time being it will be casual. but as i progress in skill and knowledge i figure i wouldn't have to buy two cameras.... i understand there is people out there who want the best of the best for taking pictures of their vactions and put their money to waste but this will be a regular thing for me.

and thanks for the opinions nelsmar

for a first time camera yup... he lasted about a month and sold it. Most of us junkies that hang out in the photography section all started with base model SLR's and some of us even started with used SLR's. I my self went out on a limb and payed a w homing $630 including my memory card... haha But that wasn't my first SLR, i had a Canon AE-1P way back!
