GSR and LS Transmission Intercompatibility

After browsing abunch of threads on HT from 2008..

Hope to get some help from individuals with first-hand experience. Everything mentioned is 94-01 Hydro.

To keep things as short as possible: I have a GSR Trans and a LS Trans, The GSR trans is "mostly" complete, minus all bolts and the springs that sit behind some of the bolts. My LS Trans IS complete and in my car right now.

Im wanting to keep things easy and drop my LS trans, And use its case and hardware, and swap the GSR guts over, and then transplant my LS 5th gear. BUT: There is abunch of glass in the GSR bearings (Mainly the largest bearing on top of the mainshaft, thanks friend who smashed my parts car rear glass after removing the speakers and let glass fall into the transmission halve that was open in the trunk...).

I've read that GSR and LS Mainshafts are the same. So I should be able to re-use my LS bearings on the GSR Mainshaft?

TL;DR

GSR 1st
GSR 2nd
GSR 3rd
GSR 4th
LS 5th
GSR FD
GSR Diff
in LS Case
with LS bearings

This shit is giving me a headache..

Easy peasy!!
Yep, you can use the bearings they are exactly the same.
I have an LS case with GSR and Type R gears and such in it so no prob!

I'd suggest changing the input shaft bearing as well.
When changing cases make sure you swap over the shims on the cases (input shaft shim and diff shim) and measure diff. clerance too.

:drive:

Yes.

This will work. I assume you read up on the process for shimming the differential bearings in the new/different case?
