maybe it isn't the alternator but the wires connecting to it

define good.

maybe the alternator is bad. i bought a reman'd one from pepboys and it took a shit the day after i installed it. I returned it for a full refund and picked one up from checkers and haven't had a problem. sometimes its hit and miss with the remanufactured ones.

Been fooled before when I assumed my wires / connections "looked" good. In fact I had a bad ground. May sound crazy but make sure "new" alternator is actually creating charge also. Look in chiltons or haynes for testing procedure. (have bought a new but bad part) Then actually check continuity of affected wiring.

double check ur power and ground make sure u have ground and power all around and yes u may still have a bad alternator i had a new and still died till it was replaced goood luuuuuuckkk

atleast you got it fix, i dont trust pep boys for part way over priced..!!

that one da 09-20-2009 07:49 PM

x2 thats really all it could be if your wires and grounds are good.

is the belt tight?

my friend was having the same problem and it turned out the belt was loose

try connecting jumper cables from the alternator to the battery and grounds on the car see if that charges your battery. If it does then I would look for white powdery stuff on the main cables. Either way that should prove to yourself that it's a cable problem and that you would need to replace them.

my homie had the same problem, we thought it was something grabbing power while the car was off. he took the alt off, i had 2 used ones, hooked him up with one. Before he installed it, we took all 3 alts to autozone, his was bad and my other 2 were good. Bottom line just take off that alt and get it tested at your fav autoparts store and find a good one. ALWAYS TEST your batt, starter, or alt before you install it weather they are new, remanufactured, or used

I agree with people here get your alternator tested at autozone or checker and while your there get yourself a test light. IF you alternator comes out fine. Take a testlight disconnect you negative battery cable. With the car off ground the test light and touch your negative terminal on your battery if it lights up, you have something drawing power.. then you tap each fuse with the test light to find which one is getting power while the car is off

Sorry but i fixd it looong time ago it was the wire that goes to the fuse box noxt to the fuseable link..
