Can my hid ballasts get wet?
I was gonna go to the car wash and degrease and clean my engine bay. I was just wondering if anything bad will happen if my hid ballasts get wet.
|
depends on the quality of the HID manufacturer really

um I would assume you would be smart enough to answer that yourself and not post it........come one now you think an hid ballast and water is a good combination?
Even if you do submerge them in water...i dont think it would be a good idea. |
Well thanks for answering my query. Next time i have a question I'll just ask you since you seem to be so knowledgeable.
|
it doesnt take a smart person to know you shouldnt get them wet....just sayin.
|
How am I really supposed to know that the HID ballasts aren't sealed and waterproof? It makes more sense for them to be waterproof. I mean most people drive through rain at some point or park their cars outdoors where they are subjected to the elements. I'm sure the manufacturers know this too.

theres a difference between a mist going through the grill and direct water
|
Well some people mount their ballast quite close to the ground. In this case going over a puddle may cause quite a bit more water to come in contact with them. The bottom line is that I shouldn't get them wet so I wont. That's all I wanted to know.
|
google the manufacturer of your ballasts and look up the specs
|
okay look....
it should be fine if it gets a little water on them but dont directly spray them (common sense) make sure there is no power going through them at the time and maybe dry them off a lil soon after or cover it with a plastic bag completely also when you spray your engine id recommend keeping the engine running i worked at a car wash almost 2 years and idk how many ppl would shut off their engine spray and clean it then it doesnt start |
thank you:goodpost: |
no problem
and ive heard alot of good things about using simple green to clean engines rather than harsh chemicals |
cool man thanks for the good info.

ehhh i degrease my engine bay and washed everything down didn't hurt them but the connections are all water proof I sprayed the box though didnt get it submerged
