blown head gasket

i was talking with pete from tsp about this and i wanna get everyone's 2 cents on this issue

i blew my head gasket on my 4 door the other day....cylinders are full of water and water just poured out of my exhuast.if i replace the headgasket, should this be ok? or would i have to mill the head and then replace? how can i check to see if the head is warped? or would it be safe to say to just get a new head? its a d15b7 auto....lmk guys thx

get a flat straight edge ruler or smth. then measure it across, diagonally, vertically and check for straightness. there shouldnt be more than .010 inch gap between the ruler and cylinder head. but if i were you ill just get it resurfaced, since there is a chance of warping it. but check the condition of the head after u pull it out.

thanx bro

Just get it resurfaced, dont risk throwing a warped head back on
TSP peteh knows what hes doing !

Only person i'd let touch my teg, in the strange event i wont work on it myself!

Lay it on a piece of glass and use a feeler gauge. If it were me I'd just get it milled, I fucking hate head gaskets...

Zero 03-06-2007 11:21 AM

does anyone know a cheap place to mill a head?

Type - O 03-06-2007 01:54 PM

what about cracked cylinders?

Zero 03-06-2007 02:04 PM

so i ahould do a compression test also?

YewllowDA 03-06-2007 02:08 PM

no need becuase you will fail.
theres no good sealing and all of the compressed air will leak to the cooling system, and not in the combustion cahmber.u said theres coolant on the pistons so that a sign of leaks.

Zero 03-06-2007 02:11 PM

so just check the head and if good put new head gasket and if bad get milled and then put the gasket on right?

YewllowDA 03-06-2007 02:14 PM

if i were u i will def. mill the head just like integrals said just to make sure it is good.....
Even a perfect cylinder can warp if you dont follow the procedures on loosening it from the block. mill it, but b4 that check the condittion of the head

Zero 03-06-2007 02:27 PM

ok will do ill know more on saturday when i go pull the head from the car but ill keep this updated for sure

Zero 03-06-2007 02:29 PM

YewllowDA 03-06-2007 02:32 PM

they charge me like $50 i think in a shop near alma school / broadway....

Zero 03-06-2007 02:34 PM

not bad might be cheaper since its a single cam 1.5 but ill check around thanks alot to all that answered this......

YewllowDA 03-19-2007 10:38 AM

Zero 03-19-2007 10:44 AM

so what do you think?

*inFamous* 03-19-2007 10:02 PM

looks like alot of wear and tear to me.

ALot of carbon buildup. Machine shop could install new valves and clean it all up for ya...

Depends on what your using it for. Just DD, woudn't worry to much about it.... Keeping it for the long run, might be worth your time/money

Take it over to Pete, and if you want i'll take a look at it next time im there
