I need some help!
A little about the car:
1990 Honda CRX DX -Auto- DPFI swapped engine to D16Z6, kept DPFI I have replaced the main relay, fuel filter, & fuel pump. I have no problem starting the car, it just seems to die off when i step on the gas. If I step on it lightly, it's driveable, but if I press too much, the car chokes & dies off. CEL is not on but I still checked ECU for codes & doesnt show any. I honestly have no idea what is going on. A guy did the swap about 2 months ago. It was working fine, then developed this problem. I'll have to check which distibutor is on there. Like i said, it runs fine, just that issue when i step on the gas it sputters & dies off. Sometimes i can save it from dying on my by lightly pulsing the gas pedal. I'm not sure how the guy did the timing tbh. Wouldn't i have issues starting the car or idle if the timing was off? The car idles great, smooth & no misfire or sputtering (until i put it in gear & want to drive it) Any help is greatly appreciated |
Maybe calibrate tps?

Where can I find the tps on a dpfi?

On the throttle body, it has a plug going to it, throttle body position sensor.
|
I'll check it out in the morning.
Thanks man. |
Research how to set it.I don't know how to do it, but I had a similar issue when my throttle cable came off.it didn't get put back on the same as it had been.

You would need a multimeter to calibrate properly
|
Does it only shut off when you put it in drive or even in park when you give it gas?
|
Yea. Thats exactly what happens. Do you know what it could be?

It feels like it chokes. Too much air or not enough fuel.

too much air? ... what?
if it's dying under load you are likely not getting fuel. Are you sure the injectors are firing? With DPFI you have a main and an aux injector. For my money i'd lean towards that main injector. But then again you do have a ridiculous combination since the B2 head has a different pattern of bolts for the distributor than the z6 head so it could be more than just a fuel problem. |
its a bastardized EF of course it has more than one problem :rflmao:
|
Has it always been this way? Did it run before with out issue? Theres only one dizzy I believe you can use for a dpfi your issue may be difficult to solve since that is a wierd combo. Out of curiosity is the vtec some how wired up aswell?
|
Vtec is not wired up.
I couldn't see what dizzy is on there. I'll take a look at it later today. When i first got it back from the guy who did the swap, it felt it different. The car would feel heavy (not enough power) but then it would pick up speed no problem. I knew something was wrong but didn't think much of it until it shut off on me out of nowhere. It's been doing that ever since. I haven't used the car since that happened, which was back in December. |
May be the car is mad at you for doing that swap and keeping in dpfi. Its like, its like....you are doing it all backwards.
Did you ever calibrated the tps? Why is your user name drhonda09 and cant solve this issue? You are not allowed to ask about my un btw, im bored.....lol Im betting it has to do with fuel delivery, if you are using an original dpfi dizy you should be fine. If you are using the z6 dizy converted to dpfi you should check the wiring. |
Lol that could be it. Its butthurt. My username has my initials lol. First name, middle name etc hahaha

cool story bro.
|
Since when can a z6 dizzy be converted to obd 0 to run dpfi?
Anyways get a timing light check ignition timing and if is spot on check mechnical timing. You gotta start trying to eliminate some stuff so we can help you, help yourself lol |
You would swap the guts of the dpfi distributor into the z6 distributor but it would be a lot of work just to have a distributor that fit, since it still wouldn't be proper. likely he has a b2 distributor attached to the head with either a foot cut off or one bolt missing, which is pretty janky.
