d16z6 turbo or n/a

im planing on boosting my d16z6 i was seeing if any of you had comments or concerns.
first turbo setup....
the head, brian crower valverain and stage 2 camshaft w titanium valve retainers
botom end is stock but freshly rebuilt

what kind of hp could i get out of it? reliable? any constructive comments would be great

MannyaK 07-23-2010 02:26 PM

how much power are you looking to get
and which turbo set up are you going to get?

tyrap26 07-23-2010 02:46 PM

looking into 300 hp, reliable, daily, keeping the ac and ps. no race fuel unless on track
dont know which set up, dont know what i should be getting.
like i said 1st set up. so im looking into getting some pointer so i dont hit or miss.
i still have a lot of research to do...i think a lot of you guys have good setup and have been playing around with them a lot
longer than i have.,,

OhDang 07-23-2010 02:59 PM

save your money and boost it from the start :)

tyrap26 07-23-2010 04:05 PM

thanks but thats 0 help.
lets change it up better comments
i want to go boost on the d16z6.
want to get around 300hp, daily driver, ac ps.
now what should i be getting, starting with the block
block guard? sleeve? piston? micro polish crank?
intake manifold? exhaust manifold to fit ac comp.
fuel? how big injectors should i run?
blah blah
is it even worth boosted the z6 or should i go toward a diff setup

OhDang 07-23-2010 04:15 PM

Sorry about being vague haha there's an article in the last import tuner where they had a turbo z6 around 300hp and were testing cams I'll post the specs of the base build when i get home

imm0rtal 07-23-2010 04:26 PM

no, I think he was right to be vague. Fucking google it, you're the 5,000,000,000th person to ask this question.

Sleeve your block though, block guards are like a band aid on an arterial wound.

OhDang 07-23-2010 04:29 PM

I know i asked this question when i first joined azht /)_-

this is the same thing im doing but if i were you i would leave the head mostly stock. do arp rod/head bolts acl high rev main and rod bearings, vitara pistons. with a good tune and a bisimoto regrind cam you could push 15psi pretty easy making 290-300 but get rods and valve train, and push 25 psi stock sleeves with a good tune be pushing 450 and thats like 1200 in parts if you know where to look lol screw b series lol you can have a fully built d series for cheaper than a full ls swap lol gl on the build man if you want more info or help pm me SAVE THE SOHC!!!!

lil black Ek9 07-23-2010 04:38 PM

if you want 300hp do forged rods, vitara pistons, walbro 255 FP, acl main and rod bearings, arp head and rod bolts, 550 injectors, aem fuel rail, and a good turbo mani and go with a good turbo my favorite for d series would be garrett gt28r she be alittle over 300 on like 18psi with a good tune a tune is everything man. I wouldnt worry about sleeves or a block gaurd id trust 25psi with stock sleeves with a good tune.

tyrap26 07-23-2010 04:41 PM

and you think i didnt google btw im still freaking googling. and in those forums youre about the 100000010 01000th fucking guy who doesnt answer the question or willing to help.. did you learn it all by urself? if you did well heres a cookie.

dont be a smart ass im asking for help so i dont face plant. tks for the sleeve advice tho..

tyrap26 07-23-2010 04:44 PM

very helpful thanks, would you happen to know what turbo manifold to use to clear ac? or is it any? or possible

lil black Ek9 07-23-2010 04:52 PM

you have to get an ac compatible manifold, im doing a z6 build also what car do you have?

lil black Ek9 07-23-2010 04:57 PM

lol^^ who sleeves d series these days. only Bitch series motors need sleeves haha

OhDang 07-23-2010 06:57 PM

From the super street article

That was their base @ 300whp/254 lbs-ft
With a ZEX 59300 they bumped it up to 335/262.

just to give you an idea since you already have a cam and some valvetrain work

JDM Jon 07-23-2010 07:05 PM

LOL I love when people talk shit about b series motors like single cams are so amazing. :lmao:

Atomic-Orange-Turbo-Sloth 07-23-2010 10:44 PM

seriously, if you cant afford a b-series that doesnt mean you talk shit about it.

you dont see me saying BMW's suck just because they are outta my budget.

mod for mod the b-series is better.

and OP google Treadstone performance, they have good d-series kits with great components for fairly cheap, dont think id do vitara pistons, when i thought about building my d-series (before it died) i thought vitara and was told they arent worth poop. Get some good JE's or something comperable, IDK if Wiseco makes car pistons or not.

tyrap26 07-23-2010 11:03 PM

thanks for the info give me a good idea

97 ek hatch

will look into it tks for the info

lil black Ek9 07-23-2010 11:36 PM

b series is more expensive thats about it. it cost more to sleeve a b series that it does to build a single cam im not hating on b series i used to have a b16 with ctr cams in my old hatch and it moved im just finding out that d series hold mad power did mean to affend anyone lol

bumpstick 07-24-2010 12:05 AM

James from SpeedFactory made 420 whp/319 trq on a stock sleeved D16 using Vitaras, on pump gas, so they are definitely worth more than poop. BTW, he sleeved that same block, made 635 whp/421 trq (not on Vitaras), and recently ran 9.65 @ 153. just saying, Vitaras are a good choice and plenty of people sleeve D series blocks.

lil black Ek9 07-24-2010 12:13 PM

ots nice but you make alot on stock sleeves. dont get me wrong i would love to have a sleeved built block, but if i dont hsve to spend 800 on sleeves snd still push 450 im not going too lol

MannyaK 07-24-2010 12:38 PM

it was actually super streetthey had a 1995 civic with a d16z6 sohc vtec
all it had was vitara 75.5mm pistons
eagle rods
stock sleeves
stock-port head
skunk2 vavle springs and retainers
skunk2 intake manifold
60mm throttle body
RC enginerring 750cc injectors
walboro 255-lph in tank fuel pump
mini ram turbo manifold
57-trim T3/T04E .63 A/R turbo
3-inch downpipe and exhaust
chipped P28 ecu, crome tuned

the cam that had the best performance was the BISIMOTO ENGINEERING LEVEL 3.6
which threw out 384 WHP/261 lbs-ft-tourque
84 WHP +7lbs-ft torque

(EDIT- SAW THAt IT WAS ALREADY POSTED)

MannyaK 07-24-2010 12:40 PM

when did they use a zex setup? i cant find it
i got the magazine here with me and i dont see anything

OhDang 07-24-2010 01:11 PM

first cam they test on page 82 herp derp he already has cams and i was just showing an example of what he could make with basic cams. I'm sure his cams aren't like bisi cam's nor will he want to shell out for them but one can dream amirite? :)

MannyaK 07-24-2010 01:18 PM

correct and yea i found it i think ive been skipping that page lol
good write up though
dirty bay haha

Atomic-Orange-Turbo-Sloth 07-24-2010 10:20 PM

well sure u can make 500hp on a stock sleeved b16 or d16, but how long it will last is the question. Getting 500hp out of a SOHC or DOHC vtec motor isnt ungodly expensive, but getting that and being reliable can be.

infamous91 07-24-2010 10:34 PM

hf mani

johnehonda 07-24-2010 10:55 PM

he speaks the truth!!! build the hell out of it

tyrap26 07-25-2010 08:58 AM
