what to look for when buying an S2000

I would like to buy an AP1 S2000 and would like to know what are some good things to check on the car before i buy it. Are the frequent issues with a particular part of the cars? I am not familiar with the E.A.S. electronically assisted steering and wonder what it is supposed to feel like? I know in 2002 they get a glass rear window but i wonder if there are any particular years that are better then others?

thanks

i don't think that would be a good idea however it wouldn't be to difficult to swap out the mounting hardware with torx drive fasteners.

AP1 s2k

02-03 make 10 hp more to the ground than 00-01 due to ECu changes
02 and later came with glass rear window.....definately worth it
03 is considered best year for AP1

also valve spring retainers can be a problem in AP1s...honda revised it in later years..Ap2+

+1. earlier ap1s had inner cv cup issues. a swap from side to side fixes this

Its expensive if your not a baller dont buy one

84b18 07-31-2009 09:19 AM

what do you mean expensive? maintenance or the initial purchase?

Crisgo 08-03-2009 09:55 AM

I believe what he ment buy expensive is if one: parts break/wear, and aftermarket (quality parts) are not cheap for the s2k. I personally have not heard of issues with the s2k other then the 00-01 softtop becoming distorted through the rear window, and rear wheel bearings that go out.

00-01 ap1 owners replace that rear window like its there job! glass for sure. plus an extras 10 horses and i believe they changed the gear ratio and suspension on 02+ to make it much better then 00-01

I frequently carry a springfield XD 40 and always keep an eye on my car. not to mention a couple other protective measures. I would not hesitate to protect my property with force.

trent protecting your property with force will only get you in trouble. the best protection is an insurance policy. no need to harm anyone or yourself because of stuff :-\.

but get an 03 if you get any of them, WAY BETTER. i'd try to find one with a hard top too, i hate soft tops.

84b18 09-07-2009 04:25 PM

I bought an 04 alredy and love it. I could never have a hard top, i drive topless way too much in all my convertables/mazda mx5/ straman crx/ and now the s2000

Ramocheese 09-07-2009 10:24 PM

What color did you get?

Ludehrt 09-27-2009 12:56 PM

Congrats on the purchase. I also have a 04 AP2 and I decided to go with this year due to the non-use of throttle by wire.

One other thing you should watch out for is that the soft top likes to rip near the area above the seats on both sides. There is an area in the folding mechanism that puts some stress on the soft top every time is folds down. There is a fix for this, which I have to eventually do, where a patch is sown to the soft top on the inside to take up some of the stress. I believe there is a place up in Scottsdale called Verdone Upholstery that does this fix.

Enjoy your purchase!

i had a shop called top notch glue in some patches ahead of time.
