Sniperscout's K24 Turbo Build

Well I recently got back from a vacation in Iraq and have some money to blow on the EM2.

When I built my first K24 I said I wouldn't be going boost and that the power I had would be enough. Some told me I would eventually get the itch for more power. Well as it turns out...they were right.

I now have essentially a brand new motor built by ERL.

ERL assembled and built k24a1 with superdeck system
Balanced and polished crankshaft
ACL race bearings
Crower rods
Wiseco 8.8:1 pistons
New k24a1 crankshaft pulley
PORTFLOW fully built, ported, and polished k20a2 head
Full supertech valvetrain
Supertech dishtop and oversize valves
OEM headgasket
ARP headstuds
Brian Crower stage 2 turbo cams
Hybrid Racing timing chain tensioner
Spuntek lower chain guide
ERL modified S2000 oil pump

After doing some talking with a friend and some extensive reading I have decided to go with the Precision 6262 turbo with an .82 AR. My goal for the motor is 500hp.

I have also been accumulating a lot of projects over the past couple years that never got started. I have a set of prelude oem calipers and rotors (which are significantly larger), ep3 rear discs, yakima roof rack and a few other small things. All of these will finally be coming to fruition.

As of today my parts have started trickling in. My Competition stg 4 clutch, Hybrid Racing 70mm throttle body, and Skunk2 intake manifold came.

I will be posting lots of pictures as this build comes along. I have a lot more parts coming over the next several days. I am hoping to have the turbo project done by January.

C.R.A.Y. 11-10-2011 08:21 PM

Interesting, I ran a Precision turbo (SC61) and intercooler a few years back in one of my miatas, and it was great, no issues. Maybe a recent thing this is?

Looks like the exhaust turbine is coming apart/failing on those pics, or some sort of shaft issue.

From what i understand this is a recent issue of turbos produced in the last 12 months or so. Some people say the shaft is too weak, some blame back pressure.. who knows

Welcome back dude!

was the only nice thing about it

Mr.Burner 11-12-2011 01:19 PM

Nice build, but i gotta ask, why would you spend all that money on a huge motor to run a little turbo and 500 hp?????

People make 500hp all day on stock k motors and they live for quite along time... just didnt make sense to me, so i ask why.

Put a borg warner s300 on there for half the price of a precision and have the same performance gain.

sniperscout 11-12-2011 11:11 PM

that borg warner is the same price as the precision one.
I am already going to have traction issues with 500 so whats really the point to going any higher. I still want the car to be very streetable and run pump gas.

Dead Bird 11-13-2011 08:47 AM

You should get a tune on race gas too then with a higher boost setup.

Just because

JDM Jon 11-13-2011 10:27 AM

I agree, just because ^

GL with the build, it will be a fun car.

How do you figure?? a ball bearing precision 6262 is $1,300 bucks give or take a hundred. A journal is $900 plus ship on both

The s300 is $750-800 give or take. So how is that the same price?

If you want to chip in some $ for the extra tuning time then I will!

every price i saw for the BW was 1100-1300

Put on my Ktuned billet shifter arm. I was worried it wouldnt fit on my revo shifter but it did. With some minor modifications i was able to fit my strut king lateral short throw adapter as well.
The shift arm reduced almost all of the play in the shifter and makes for a much nicer shift feel.

The Original Arm on the revo...as you can see the bushing is extremely loose.
