Copper spray on Head Gasket

anyone use it?
I hear that its a pita to get off the block when you change the head gasket, and also you get a lot of copper in your coolant system.
My roommates are engineers and domestic guys and they are split between if it would be beneficial or bad.

Both my head and block are machined, but i just dont want this F$%^er to leak at all.

anyone got any opinions?

use a honda headgasket, new head bolts and the right torque specs and sequence and it shouldnt leak AT ALL especially with a freshly machined block and head.

I usually use a little spritz of that on my car, and i've changed the HG a few times when adding new modifications, and no it doesn't change the process or make it more PITA :)

do you spray the headgasket on both sides and then let it dry? or do you put the HG on with the copper spray still wet?

dry!

take some metal hangers and hang it up,Spray both sides evenly and dont blob it either...Let dry for like 30-45 mins and your good.

I use it and yes a lil gets in the coolant but not much.. yes spray both sides, then let dry/tacky slide on and assemble

awesome, thx for the help, ive never used the stuff before, I was originally under the impression that you had to put it on wet lol.

Do you spray multiple layers usually or just one?

Anyone have any bad experience with this?

;)

to the OP just spray each side and anything can go wrong with any engine. I've had my head lift a couple times and I use ARP's head bolts. I had a leak on my injector bung, caused me to lean out cylinder #4 too much cylinder pressure and then your suddenly starting to get hot and/or over heating. Next time I guess both my temp guage and my FAL fan took a shizznit and the one time I didn't have my lap top monitoring the car, it got hot and definately had to lift the head once again..blah.. so the car sits...murphy hangs out in my garage lol

good info in this thread, never heard of the spray myself.

never worked for a shop or done a head gasket I assume...

I've done both with & without, never any issues on honda's, however I've seen some bigblock guys swear up & down about a little copper spray for insurance... I don't have a problem using it though, I see no real downside to a very light coat.
