Brake Problem, Please Help!

okay here is the situation, if i'm going forward then i can brake fine, no problems, but if i back, up the rear driver side tire, wont move, it just locks,up what could the problem be? the brakes are basically brand new, and the cable for the e-brake is not kinked and is free moving. i'm thinking to much pressure in the lines, but dont know please help

Usually when drum brakes grab backing up, is because the shoes are in the wrong position. It is easy to mix up the shoes and a lot of people don't even realize there is a difference. There is a simple rule to follow and it's easy to remember, "Long shoe in back."

...thanks bro, yea the guy i bought it from took it to a shop to have it done, so i'll check it out, anyone know. what exactly to do to get the outer drum off?

*inFamous* 04-18-2007 10:04 AM

to get the drum off, simply remove the wheel :)

Also, quite occasionally, ppl over tighten the preloaded spring... other than that, what Dan already said and of course a failed / stuck cylinder could be an issue

97BaggedDually 04-18-2007 10:05 AM

.....ight yea cuz i have the car on stands right now and last night i could not get the damned outer off for my life, lol, its really funny though, it fuckin spins fine forward, then bam, wont go back.

*inFamous* 04-18-2007 10:07 AM

sounds like someone did a 'great' job with the breaks.

sometimes u have to put 12mm bolts into the two threaded holes and tighten them from side to side to pop the drum off. Shoudln't have to do tha if the breakes were done recently...

97BaggedDually 04-18-2007 10:18 AM

ight yea i'll take a look at it when i get home cuz i'm in class now....like alwasy lol, but yea, i appreciate the input i just hope nothing is to fucked up cuz i dont wanna put any money into the brakes cuz in a bit ima do rear disc conversion, so...ye

i just used a hammer and tapped it around the edges to loosen it and then pulled it off.

*inFamous* 04-18-2007 10:39 AM

This works under normal cicumstances, woudn't recommend it if you think you have an existing break problem as it can shatter shoes :)

Type - O 04-18-2007 11:27 AM

^^^^didnt think about that

*inFamous* 04-18-2007 08:11 PM
