Car Wax Recomendations?

I waxed my car once after i first bought it but wasn't too happy with the finished product. Ive got some swirls in the paint and been meaning to give it a good wax. So what im asking is what wax's have you guys found to work the best for you and what was your waxing technique

BigCountry 12-04-2009 11:52 PM

I use Meguiers when I do... just really gotta see which one you personally like...

azjared 12-05-2009 11:41 AM

Ya i think i used the meguirers with caranuba last time but wasnt very satisfied

stin1 12-05-2009 11:49 AM

I like the meguiars #26.

aznjdmhatch01 12-05-2009 07:42 PM

use clay bar

SiDream 12-05-2009 07:58 PM

I just picked up Meguiars Clay Kit, Zymol cleaner wax, and turtle wax's rubbing compound. Had a buddy run some over a oxidized spot on my roof, turned out beautiful, so I'm sold on the products.

Awol_Mikey 12-06-2009 01:27 AM

Finish Kare 1000P, and iv never looked back at any other product..

but for an over the counter wax, Meguiar's NXT tech wax is nice has alot of filler in it hides moderate swirls nicely.

BigCountry 12-06-2009 02:03 AM

Do you even know what a clay bar is used for?

azjared 12-06-2009 11:23 AM

i was looking at that one almost got it too but then i ended up using some zymoil my friend that works at checker sold me for cheap, worked pretty good and it smells awesome, paints nice and smooth again

BigCountry 12-06-2009 03:00 PM

I completely forgot about that stuff... I've used it a couple of times and like it.

Awol_Mikey 12-06-2009 05:11 PM

zymol is nice stuff as well but i personally just dont like its durability, only last like a week or so..

Ev sanchez 12-10-2009 12:35 AM

gsr1379 12-10-2009 01:21 AM

Nedaaaah 12-10-2009 01:25 AM

ive been using menzerna products for a couple of years and ill never look back. price is about the same as vato zone stuff but it is 100x better!

SNOAH 12-17-2009 09:37 AM

I got that meguiars nxt wax and it worked pretty good but then I lost it amongst a lot of things and it got all watery once I found it and didnt work the same lol. I want to find one that works really well and is made mostly for black cars. I think I saw that my buddy had some but I forgot what it was called

wat does clay bar do?

VoodooXIII 12-17-2009 07:14 PM

Clay bars are generally used to remove anything thats on a paint's surface, cleaning the fawk out of it so it looks brand new. But that shit strips off everything, meaning wax, polish, etc. You've gotta go and reapply it all to continue to protect the finish and get it up to an optimal shine.

IMO, there is no "best" when it comes to car wax. Each is going to have its own strengths and weaknesses. While one wax may appear glossier, another may last longer, supply better paint protection, feel smoother to touch, so on and so forth. It's all about trial and error and finding what you like.

Jason.AZ1 12-17-2009 07:16 PM

have you guys used the liquid claybar?

BigCountry 12-17-2009 08:42 PM

Turtle wax black box is what you want.

EM1 jooowizzzle 12-19-2009 04:16 PM

yea i started to claybar the car and notice that it was gettin to the clear coat so i stopped... it kinda scared me.. i jus used some quickwax to cover it bak up...

thats wat i use and i love that shit.. took me forever to do my car tho like 5 hours

SNOAH 12-19-2009 09:51 PM

I saw that stuff the other night and was looking at it. seems legit so i'll need to buy an electric polisher

ngk22r 12-20-2009 01:25 PM

it depends if you have a single stage or dual+ stage paint. I like to use zymol, or the stuff from work. If you have a clear coat use clay bar with detail spray, then a good carnauba car wax polish cleaner to clean up and shine!

ngk22r 12-20-2009 01:27 PM

..forgot to add wipe thorough with a mico-fiber cloth, will pick up the excess wax that makes the swirl.

Is there any specific was for red cars?
I have swirl marks and ive used turtle wax and it was "ok"
Ive got a 90 CRX and really want to make it shine

Nachooooosupreme 02-24-2010 09:59 AM

i got some wax from sherwin williams years ago for swirl marks.
wax on wax off

zymol works great for me

Bodykit 02-25-2010 08:05 AM

I dunno what kinda clay bars u guys r using that goes "down to the clear" but I've been detailing for a dealership for almost 4yrs now and use a medium grade compound clay bar everyday. Mainly because the clay bar is used to remove overspray to give the surface a smooth touch. After that, depending on the condition of the paint such as deep scratches, light scratches, oxidation, etc, I use a medium grade compound wax with a whool pad to removed any heavy scratches that aren't down to the metal. They u have to follow it with a foam pad which will then remove swirls and put a shine to the paint. After all that's said and done, use a micro fiber cloth to remove any access wax on the car and u r done. Hope that helps, if u have any questions feel free to ask. DELETED FOR VIOLATION OF TOS:)

3M Ultrafina is the best you can buy on the market but is intended to be used with a real buffer like a multi speed Dewalt.

slowmedown 03-18-2010 06:52 PM

just FYI for any tucson folks i picked up some Zymol at Target for 6 bucks on clearance the other day. it was the store on broadway. when i get a chance to wax my car i will let you know how it works

nelsmar 06-15-2010 12:11 PM

bringing thread back from the dead for post count ftw! lol, and bringing up old ideas.

But for more helpful post, honestly the mequires cleaner wax fills in and is great when you have swirls but the coat isn't ideal. Their carnauba... ahaha no thanks, it was more clear than i wanted and just wasn't that pleased. Their gold leaves an okay white polish to it (which is what i want on my yellow car). But it really amplified the swirls in my paint. 2 coats of cleaner and a coat of gold does "alright" but still shows more than i want.
