Shooting Dobson Highschool Auditorium.
So my little brother is in Dobson's Orchestra, and I've been asked to take som pictures for the show by the family.
I'm up for shooting anything, so I said... sure. So, basically I'm looking at renting a lens to shoot this show with... I have no idea how far I'll be from the stage, I do believe from all of his other shows it's going to be relatively dark.. except for the stage which will be dimly / okay lit. Then there is the thought that I don't know if they'll be very appreciative if I roll in with a 70-200 f/2.8 L lens... I do know that I'm going to need the larger aperature to be able to handle the darkness... without having to bump my iso through the roof. I'm also looking at the Tamron 18-270... and 28-300... but both are f/3.5.. Any suggestions? |
what is more important? Aperture, or focal length?
If you can shoot a larger aperture prime lens, then I'd suggest that. Only problem is the lack of zoom, soo you'd need a bit of freedom to move around the venue. If zoom is most important, then 2.8 glass is the way to go. prices are usually very cheap when renting glass. I rented a 24mm tilt shift ($2,000) for my last shoot and it was only 25.00/day. |
I think any movement I will get will be around the perimeter / back... so zoom is probably going to be for me. I'm worried about them not letting me in with that huge lens.
lol, they'll let you in. the main thing you have to worry about with performance events like that is flash. many venues will ask you not to use flash. but I can't imagine not letting you in because you're using a top of the line lens.
I've got my onboard flash disabled... so I don't see that being an issue.
I'm gonna rent the lens and see how it goes. :) |
they will not stop you from coming in, go in early and practice in there it is always open and theres like 10 doors to that place.. what camera are you using, and when is this..
ps i hated that school. |
im sorry but am i the only one who thought there was a shooting (crazy kids with guns) at dobson?
i would say yes.. but i can see were you would get that but it wouldnt be posted here, and most people at dobson are pussies, unless they changed since i was there.
x2...
Well, if it was in the "On topic" section, yes. But in the photog section, nah. Lol
Haha yes I thought the same. I didn't pay attention that it was in the photography thread
70-200 2.8 ftw.
I'm getting that 2.8 IS, I promise you that. That fuckin' lens is so BOSS! After comparing at 200mm, I can justify spending an extra $1,000.
if you want to use my 70-200 you can lol
just need moar collateral |
side note, did you go to dobson evil? if so you should pm me your name, cus i went there lol...
Nah, I grew up in Phoenix.
lol ok. i was gonna say, i know a few people on here that i went to high school with, i didn't think you were one of them.
what year did you graduate, i was 07 |
x14^^^^ i just clicked on this thinking there were pics of a shooting a dobson haha
Didn't read anyone elses silly posts, but having shot several concerts...
70-200 2.8 or if you're close enough, 17-55 2.8 Then again, a prime lens could work since the orchestra isn't going to be moving around much, but then you're stuck with a bunch of the same shots... Just different faces/instruments. |
^ listen to this guys i like his concert work!
meh its ok.
Went pretty well with a 17-40. :P They had the lights turned on in the audience so it provided enough light to not have to worry about the f/4... Time to trade up and buy a 24-70 f/2.8. :)
