Gas tank interchangability
I know, I used a big word in the title. xD
Anywhore, I was thinking of swapping in a bigger tank into my CX just to push my range up a little more. Can I take one from a DX/VX, or even an EX coupe and stuff it in place without a hitch? Or am I just dreaming? |
Anything can be done with a grinder and a hammer with some jbweld

I believe they are a simple change.. Not 100% though
How many gallons is the CX again? |
It's 10. I've been looking at parts sites and some show the tanks fitting cx/dx/vx, but irregardless of the model, the dimensions and capacity are the same. I've got a suspicion that the CX tank may not be as deep. I could be wrong.

You can easily put a ex,si, dx tank to get more fuel capacity without any modication. The cx and vx models have those tanks to shave off weight and improve mpg
|
Right, I figured as much. ;)
|
No you can't
|
You might want to check rockauto for the tank. I got a 13.9 gallon dorman tank for my 92 si for a reasonable price after 5% discount.
|
I've looked. They don't define the tanks by sub-models, just engine size. Prices are good enough, just trying to see if I could use a tank out of a DX/VX hatch to add a little more range is all. Guess I'll have to dig deeper for CX dimensions and layout.

Dorman 576610 is the tank that I bought for my car. The same tank is listed under the 1.5L so it should fit yours. Make sure to buy some fuel injection line to replace the fuel return line. The Dorman 576610 Is 13.5 gallons, but mine held over 14 gallons on the first fill.

I bought a brand new Spectra Premium fuel tank for my VX, to up my volume from 10 gallons to 13.5 gallons. No installation problems, it fit, I love it. Autozone website says that tank fits the CX, DX, VX and Si. So while I can't say for sure that they are all interchangeable, my guess is they probably are.
