Lane should be able to answer this. I only used telnet to connect to M.U.D.'s back in the day.

Okay before you get ahead of your self there is basic steps you need to do.

And what the hell are you trying to do? whose network is this? Are you able to ping the gateway? Some times people setup a wifi network and you can only connect to each other, but to access beyond the gateway they require a VPN of some sort to tunnel thru. This is a method of authentication, i have done this in the past. So if you can ping any device on the network after you connect, there you go. It is possible DHCP is just disabled on the network, but if it is not then it is possible it is mac filtering.

If so you would need to simply find a mac address of another device you have on the network, go to your device and update it. Some devices allow spoofing some do not. It is common for many routers to let you "spoof" so that you can forward your actual machines MAC.

Why don't you ask the owner of the network to give you assistance? This sounds more like you are trying to compromise someones security and i will not support that sorry!

It probably is MAC filtering, also how large is the network?

It could also be that the MAC address you are spoofing has insufficient privileges to do what you need to do?

Also, have you checked to see if the Static IP you gave your device is not conflicting with an existing device on the network with the same IP?

Sorries
was sitting in Networking class and had a semi-smart moment that failed lol.

Agent Smith pointed out a good thing too, the Device Name...I don't remember if the Device name is part of the header in the MAC address data, I'll have to read.

this reminds me of the old "roothackers" challenge back when people would set up boxes and challenge hackers to gain full access for "cred"

lulz who uses telnet these days?
