b20 throttle body on d16 crazy idle problems
I've got a brand new d16 motor. OEM everything skunk2 manifold and b20 throttle body.
Anyone have any ideas as to why its idleing at 3-4000rpms. I've checked everything. Tps has been calibrated. Its .5-4.5 volts. Iacv is clean. Sprayed everything down with carb cleaner to check for a vacum leak. Nothing. Throttle is not stuck. Even completely took the throttle cable off and its still there. The b20 throttle body has an Fitv though and my car originally was not equipped with one so I capped the lines. even though there is nothing hooked to it that is the only thing i havent checked. Can anyone tell me if this is where the problem lies? i mean, its not even throwing any codes. Its just idleing crazy high! Anyone have any experience with a b20 throttle body on the d16? Im stumped. Thanks in advance. :you rock: |
Also, tps and map sensor plugs are not mixed up. I'm positive.

What throttle body gasket was used? You need a b18/b20 gasket. The d-series are shorter.
|
B20 gasket was used. I'm so stumped. This issue is it is literally a brand new motor. Not even broke in and I'm scared about it revving so high for so long while I trouble shoot. So I'm constantly trying one thong, then shutting of off then trying another and shutting of off. Its a pain.

Block of fitv or screw the plunger back in.
|
Thanks man. Ill give that a whirl. appreciate it.
|
If you cover the bottom bypass port before the throttle plate and the idle drops, it's the fitv, top iacv.
|
Sounds good man. Last question.
Because of the way the Fitv works, if I were to take it apart, and put a solid block off gasket in it then re-assemble... there are 2 barb fittings on it? Top and bottom. If it were blocked off, the bottom fitting wouldn't matter? But the top one I would still have to do something with because it goes straight into the throttle body right? Or am I completely wrong? |
Just block off, not needed, Honda even realized this.
|
I'm sorry brother but block off what? The fittings? The internals with a Solid gasket? Both? How would you do it?
|
Either make a block off plate for the whole fitv or plug the bypass hole that leads to it with a epoxy.
|
What if I just took some of that quick steel stuff and stuffed it in to both fittings and the bypass port?
|
Both fittings are used for coolant. Plug the hole in the throttle with your finger and see if that helps.

That picture alone helps a ton. Thanks man

***Update***
Pulled the throttle body, completely filled and sanded the ports for the fitv. Got a known working almost brand new iacv. Got everything all installed and the car is still idling like shit. The Crower Cam that is in it says that the valve clearances should be .006 intake side, .008 exhaust side. Stock says .007-.009 intake and .009-.011 exhaust side. I know its a long shot but I was talking to an old muscle car guy and he said that the valves are way too tight and there is a possibility that its messing up the ecu. Anybody have any other ideas? Could this be a possibility that the valves are too tight Ive been at this for a couple weeks now. The car runs fantastic just wont idle! |
That could play a part in it.
