97 ls coupe
New b20 engine and trans Everything worked great for like a week and a half. Woke up thurs morning and it was failing. Neutral and firstgear rev up just fine . When i shift to 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear CAR SPUTTERS. Now, parts have been replaced/tested Fuel pump - walbro 255lph Fuel filter - oreally Oem fpr- 3 diff ones New ngk plugs n wires 3 distributors have been tested - still the same thing. 2 oem throdle bodies have been tried - still the same thing All wiring correct, no plugs cut 45Psi fuel NO CEL CODES Oem p75 ecu - 2 different ones, still the same problem Timing is perfect Grounds are spot on - no grounds loose or neglected 91 octane 3/4 of a tank from circle k -same fuel i use in my wifes pilot w 200k plus miles It only sort of works when wot is active in all gears but not that great. , again, no tps, nor map problems. Fuel system is great. Timing is perfect. Grounds are all there. Any other suggestions to figure this out? |
Are all four injectors working properly?
|
Are the injectors clean, the fuel rail is working properly? Are you getting proper voltage to injectors
|
How about fuel pressure regulator?
|
I have had a tps go bad and act up like that for a few days before finally throwing a code.
|
that's a good thought too, especially if it happens while he is driving and not idling
|
Sounds like a tps issue to me.. Are you using the same tps with the different throttle bodies? Also, did you properly calibrate it/them?

3 different sets of injectors, ls, y7, n y8. Still sputtered the same
All injectors getting power Fuel rail should not have a major impact, i mean, its just a fuel rail. 3 diffenrent main relays Ls unmolested complete tb Y8 unmolested complete tb 3 different oem fpr n one aftermarket. While using oem fpr it has 50psi according to the gauge on top of the new filter. Using aftermarket fpr it stays at 45psi. To me it seems its getting so much gas but not enough air. Oem valve lash is Intake .004-.006 Exhaust ,006-.008 Today, valve lash adjusted to .005 intake and .006 exhaust. It started to run a little better but it still sputters on 3rd, 4th n 5th now. Seems closer to normal on 1st, n 2nd. Gotta wait again until the engine gets cold and im gonna adjust intake to .004. I also need to purchase a new ls tb gasket since i really dont like how it idles w the y8 tb. Again, no cel codes, its a 97 and when ignition is in #2 i do see the cel light comes on then off once the car starts |

:hi:
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck yes!!! Gracias for your time and help. Text me n Lmk how much is it. After an hour of going thru timing, spark, tps voltage, injector power, map sensor testing, compression testing, grounds, disy, sparkplugs, plugs connections, fuel pressure.......we came up to just replace the engine harness bc mr dunk had more important business to handle. Went to my friends house. Waited til the car cooled down. Swaped harness with an obd1. Drove it for a block and it still felt like shit. After the stop sign, i started driving it more and it started to feel back to normal. Drove it more and felt no problems whatsoeve . :tits: Damn engine harness. Been driving it for 2days, like a champ. I still have no clue what was causing it. Im gonna open up the old obd2 harness n check it out. From a quick inspection, looks like one of the o2 wires was corroded n not making full contact. I tried to plug the new harness to the old o2 sensor and it didnt want to plug in. I replaced the o2 sensor and ut plugged right in Thank you again for your time Mr. Dunk |
I've had ef's w old corroded wires before and tracking those issues down was a bitch. Glad your cars back on the road!
|
Yeap, mainly i thank mr dunk. He actually convinced me to do what i was thinking of doing but really really really really did not want to do. Paid off at the end
Car today hauling ass as it should |
