***Official DSLR Vid Thread***

Saw some peeps talking about DSLR movies in the classifieds, thought I'd share mine that I've done.
These are really the first videos I've put together so I'm still learning the difference between moving pictures lol
All were done on my buddy's D3100 and edited by me, enjoy...?
(Oldest to newest)

HondaFreak 01-11-2011 12:56 AM

Pretty dope, dude. Keep it up.

apSquidFace 01-11-2011 06:23 PM

What did you use to edit?

TauntDevil 01-11-2011 06:29 PM

Nice. I thought about making a thread for DLSR videos... maybe this could be that thread?

Some cool stuff. Good job.

Fundillo 01-11-2011 07:02 PM

iMovie
yep yep! Go ahead!! I made the title non-specific for that reason!

honduh_head 01-11-2011 07:04 PM

honduh_head 01-11-2011 07:04 PM

title changed :)

TauntDevil 01-11-2011 07:10 PM

Thank you

Awesome thanks. Im still working on a video. (Getting use to manual focus while zooming is iffy lol. Saving up for my rig. xD)

honduh_head 01-11-2011 07:14 PM

if you notice a lot of the stuff fundillo posted wasn't in focus all the time

TauntDevil 01-11-2011 07:26 PM

I know but im trying to figure it out on how to zoom and focus at teh same time. I kinda have it just still working on it. Soon when i get a paycheck im going to build my own rig until i get hte money to buy the other ones. The rigs im looking at come with focus sensors so itll auto focus for you. :)
Then again they are $2000 lol. About $100 less then what i paid for my camera. lol

Big C 01-11-2011 08:26 PM

Should have bought the D7000. It has continuous auto focus while zooming during video so you don't have to "follow focus" like you do in Canons. If you really want to pursue video that is a better start than spending $1500-2000 on a rig IMO. If you have a d7000 all you need is a decently priced dolly system (couple hundred tops) and you'd be set.

TauntDevil 01-11-2011 08:31 PM

I have a really good dolly system.
The issue that i found with the D7000 (When i went to best buy to check out all the cameras) is that the focus is slow and wouldnt work for what i would want to use it for.
I mainly upgraded cameras for the video purpose but also for the photos too. I did think about getting the 5dM2 which i see you are selling for the same price i bought my camera for but i ended up liking the 7D more do to it fit my style more. Ill get use to it. Just will take some time :)

honduh_head 01-11-2011 08:38 PM

Can't wait to see if nikon brings the video software to an updated full frame camera.

apSquidFace 01-11-2011 08:48 PM

Focus is ultra fast for me when I use it for video... sometimes too fast and I have a hard time keeping up with the camera.

TauntDevil 01-11-2011 08:53 PM

Weird. Maybe theirs was just messed up?
It seems slow for what i would use it for (Automotive stuff) and would continuesly focus on other things instead of one thing like... i tried focusing on a person and as they moved i kept the camera on them (stalking) and it kept focusing on stuff behind them then at them again etc. Maybe its because i dont know how to use Nikon rofl.

Big C 01-11-2011 10:09 PM

x2. I decided to just keep all my current gear and wait to see what later this year has in store for us (both Nikon & Canon). Should be an interesting year since Nikon & Canon are about due for new full frame models.

That is what I've been reading from other users as well.

That would be my guess ;)

You can't just pick up a different brand camera and play with it for 5 mins in a store and expect perfect results. Who knows if you even had it set up properly, especially considering how very different the Canon & Nikon menu systems are. It's hard to get used to the other brand when you don't have experience with it. I'd need a solid full day with a Nikon to feel comfortable in setting it up and using it correctly.

NissanSkyline901 01-11-2011 10:20 PM

Here is one I made when I was at some meets out in San Diego:

It was really my first time making a video with the 7D and using Windows Live Movie Maker. I def. need to work on follow focus. Will be doing a lot more with video this year, a lot.

JDM Jon 01-11-2011 11:42 PM

Considering it was at best buy, it was probably messed up.

The President 01-12-2011 07:47 AM

wait... you paid 2000 bucks for a 7D?

TauntDevil 01-12-2011 07:55 AM

$1300 for the 7D with kit lens, then around $800 for other stuff. All together it was $2000
Warranty is rape. $700 for the warranty.

Fundillo 01-12-2011 08:21 AM

aww :(
agreed, rigs are def the way to go, dont get to excited with dslr autofocus, its not the same as a dedicated video cameras autofocus. Movies don't use autofocus ;)
im waiting till mid year, if they dont im going canon

honduh_head 01-12-2011 11:38 AM

I didn't mean it in a bad way, because it works well for you.

Fundillo 01-12-2011 12:21 PM

thanks! hahaha

Rufus 01-12-2011 12:28 PM
