Low Idle after head swap

So i finally swapped the head i had.

Its a 97 Teg. Auto
B18B
New Head
B18b head milled 25 thou
Modified HG: 2 layer, middle layer removed.
New Valve seals
Valves were lapped
New PCV

My issue:
Idles real low at like 250-350 rpm
Car almost wants to shut off.

Things ive done

Re checked Timing,
I actually set the timing Twice just to be sure. and its spot on:
Adjusted the screw on the TB and it made absolutely no difference.

Not sure what else it could be. Car hasnt thrown CEL as of yet. Car drives like normal and maybe even a little better and smoother now. But at a stop or idle its super low. as stated above at like 250-350 rpms

maybe you overlooked saying this but were the valves adjusted to spec?

If its an auto, check the kickdown cable adjustment.

Disregard: read high, not low idle lol

Yes sorry i did forget to mention that.

Before turning the car over i adjusted valves. Intake at 0.002 and exh @ 0.004

Things i did last night:
Changed Fuel filter to new one
Cleaned Spark plus. checked cap and rotor

Still same issue.

One thing i noticed after thinking aboutthings for a while. I may have misplaced my valve springs before putting it all back together. I MAY have installed exhaust valve springs all the way around on 16 valves. I know there is a difference between the 2 but ubsure if this would cause the issue im having.

Also maybe my adjustment was not correct?

This is what I adjusted mine to... per service manual
And this was on the tight side, iirc

Valve lash adj.
intake: .004
exh. .007

i will re adjust and see if there is a difference

Sales@RC's Garage 12-02-2014 03:52 PM

Wow way tight on the adjustment. Definitely let us know after you adjust to spec.

Ok so I re did my valves to .005 in and .008 ex

Big difference. Low idle went away. Idk where I got 0.002 and 0.004 for my adjustment but it was wrong. There is a little bit of rattling so I may be able to tighten it up just a tad but that was my issue.

Thank you gentlemen you guys came through for me.

Try the specs I posted, mine is nice and quiet.

4dr_ed3 12-03-2014 08:36 AM

i bought a set and for whatever reason the 0.007 was not included so i had to go with the 0.008 to be on the dafe side
