starter *clunck*/*click* no start..
so recently my starter isnt working. it sounds like its hitting the flywheel or something.
i already tried another starter(used and older) but same exact issue. car push starts and runs fine.. help asap im tired of push starting my DD |
What car
95 integra gs-r
91 jdm b16 block stock flywheel 96 ls transmission oem/stock starter oem trans ground, oem battery ground, and 3 block/head grounds |
ok so looking at the old starter i dont really see signs of it hitting the flywheel.. im going to hopefully pull the other starter of and check that one too. also try to look through the starter hole for any hit signs ..

make sure you are getting enough voltage to the solenoid. My gfs car is like this and I haven't pinpointed the issue yet, but if we give 12v of direct voltage to the solenoid it'll turn over and start just fine
hmm ok i brought my tester home tonight ill have to have the gf crank it while i hold test leads and read the volts..

double post!!! thanks to internal server error..

Just take the thing off and take it to a parts store and have them bench test it.

bad ignition switch??
Yeah that 7v isn't enough to get it going. Now if you use a wire to give it 12v from the battery will it turn over just fine?
this is where im lost ive never had to jump a starter before.. do i just the 2 starter terminals or do i jump the small one from the positive side of the battery
The small one is the wire from the ignition switch. The larger one that is connected from the harness of the car is the main battery feed. The other post is the power feed for the solenoid.
The two larger posts are the ones you want to jump. |
By the way this started as an intermittent problem
And then just became constant. I think I failed to mention that.. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2 |
Whoops. I was thinking of later models. Should just jump those two and it should kick out.
ok..
Intermittent issue that has now turned fail. Ignition switch. Most likely a corroded contact judging by the 7volts. Causing resistance.
ok so i took the ignition switch off/apart and cleaned it. it test 12.xx volts on the switch itself but still only 7.xx at the starter and still no start.
ok im getting 12 volts to the starter relay and 8 out of it(tried 2 relays) even power to through the starter signal fuse.... After that it is down to clutch Interlock switch/ground, other grounds and battery.

both starter tested good at checker.. trying the battery next.. its at checker on the charger then getting tested.. after i unhooked the starter i was getting 10 all the way through the relay and to the fuse..
recharged battery and it fired right up.. time for a new battery cause it failed on the tester
weird, I have the EXACT same issue on my gfs car but its still random, and her battery is brand new. 12v at the ignition switch and like 6-7v at the solenoid
well after i took the starter off i had 10 at the fuse(assume same at the starter) try jumping your car or go get the battery tested? cause i tested at the ign switch, to the relay, out of the relay, at the fuse then the starter since thats about all there is in that line of wiring.
yeah I took all the same steps as you and voltage magically disappears past the firewall
what voltage do you have at the fuse? and whats your battery CCA?
ill check when I get home
