Cel 20 need help!!!

Whats up guys, I have been trying to fix this problem for the last two weeks and nothings is working. So I have finally broken down to see if anyone had this problem and knows how to fix it.

So far I have changed my fuse box twice the only thing that does is clears the code for a few hours and it comes right back. I also checked all my fuses and none of them are pop/blown. I know that I can just get a chipped p28 and have the code cleared for good, but I have to go pass emission in two more weeks so that wont cut it.

Any help would be appreciated.

obd1 they dont care 90% of the time if it has a cel. as long as it passes the roller test

Kiid Supreme 07-08-2014 03:37 PM

Really? I thought if it had a CEL it wouldn't pass at all.

Thanks for the knowledge

If your car is 96 and newer they don't roller test it, they plug it in. If you have a check engine light on they will test the car and fail it. They will tell you the cell and what needs to be fixed, they will give you 90 days to get it fixed.

See this is what I was thinking too because I have a 2000 civic.

Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this???

C.R.A.Y. 07-08-2014 09:02 PM

Doesn't matter if you fix it if you're running an obd1 ecu, it will never pass the scan test

Kiid Supreme 07-08-2014 09:16 PM

how would I not pass if i fix the problem and no longer throwing a code??? Im lost on that one.

I understand if I use a p28 ecu and chip it I would not pass, but that is the reason why I am trying to fix the problem staying obd2

Anybody???

Go get your alternator checked. The voltage regulator may be going bad.

CB7_PHX 07-14-2014 06:21 PM

Cray is saying If you have a p28 it is a obd1 ecu. The scan will not read it.. Sometimes they pass you when using obd1 sometimes they dont.. I passed mine with a p28 in my ek.. but I know people that failed the test. .

If you are staying obd2 you won't have a problem unless you can't get rid of the cel.

As for your problem, have you Googled it? Maybe someone has had similar problems and was something stupid you overlooked???

Is your back up fuse blown ( 7.5 fuse in the box under the hood)? if not blown, replace the ELD.

Kiid Supreme 07-15-2014 01:20 PM

Do you know where I can go to get it checked? I was reading up about checking the voltage on a few other threads on honda tech. Thanks for the help

Oh ok got cha, thanks for breaking it down a little more. Im thinking about just getting a jumper harness and getting a p28 and saying F it.

As for googling it, I have done that a few times already and everything that was coming up was either replace the fuse box which I did. Check all the fuses which I did. The only thing I havent done yet is check the voltage.

No blown fuses bro, and replaced my fuse box still no luck. Thanks for the help tho

Autozone does free checkings. You have to remove your alternater to take it in.

P28 won't fix your code 20 unless your ecu is fried. Code 20 is also found in obd1.

You need to take it out and take to to pretty much any national parts store and they should be able to test it for you.
