Very rarely. I've been around a bunch of Cobras and have ridden in one or two but have never driven one, unfortunately. Would love to see if you're right, though, as they don't do that much for me, honestly. I actually prefer the narrow 289s, though.

They made 32 narrow body big block cars. I got to drive one back to back with a 289 car.
The 289s do feel a bit more nimble, but the shock and awe factor of the 427 cars is intoxicating. Reminds me of a lighter more violent 427 tri power Corvette honestly. Mostly the rumors of the big block cars being nose heavy and hard to handle are overstated. Somewhere I have a couple in car vids of me driving the big block. |
Yeah, I do like the narrow body 427s. There was a real nice black one out at the Copperstate 1000 earlier this year ( ). I honestly don't know much of anything when it comes to how the real Cobras actually drive, I was just commenting more on them aesthetically. The 289s with the non-flashy sidepipes still sound mean as hell, too.

Yeah that is Colin Comer's car. That is the Big Block I have driven. The shop I worked at used to take care of the cars he would bring down here. If you ever have a chance to chit chat with him, he is good peoples. He wrote a few books, and amazingly his first book has a few of the cars I have worked on/upkept (Million Dollar Muscle.)
The year I was a route mechanic for the 1000, he was in a GT350. He also has a nice '71 442 W30 and a '66 GT40 roadcar. Hey, I went somewhere! by , on Flickr by , on Flickr I have been lucky to see 4 SR-71s, I had not seen this one since 1997. I have seen this one in DC twice, the one at Pima air museum, Boeing Museum of Flight in Seattle, and the one in Huntsville, AL at the Space Center. Amazing place, the Udvar-Hazy Center. |
