fuel pressure issue..

so i recently added an adjustable FPR, and fuel rail on my car. i adjusted the fuel pressure to 42 at the time of install. today when i got home it was reading 20psi but a/f were mid 14s and car ran fine.. i adjust it to 40 and it runs way lean (18.8 a/f) and wanted to die out..

unknown fuel pump (assuming walboro 255)
6 month old (roughly) fuel filter,
an fittings from filter to rail
ID 1000 cc injectors (seem to fit somewhat loose in the rail)
no name fuel rail (aem replica)
an fittings from rail to FPR
aeromotive replica AFPR with gauge on it.
an fitting on return line..

dont see any leaks anywhere..
car runs fine currently
why the funny fuel pressure now and why would it go lean upping the pressure?

First I would verify with another guage.

^^This. What gauge it is? I've seen cheap non liquid filled gauges go bad after awhile. The engine vibration kills them.

I haven't gotten a new gauge yet but it does look to be sticky.. it's some no name liquid filled gauge.
