Lincoln 155 thoughts? possible purchase for a beginner.
So I'm looking to get my brothers Lincoln 155 welder, I'm eager to learn the ups and downs of welding, so what do you guys think of this as a beginners welder?
I know it accepts the gas conversion which is about 150. I'm not trying to get all fancy with stuff but I would like to be able to weld body panels and such. Any thoughts? |
Should be good enough for sheet metal.
Personally I don't like those bargain welders. I want my wire feed speed in inches per minute and my voltage in the actual voltage I am using. Voltage of 5 with a WFS of 8 doesn't mean shit to me... |
Do you have 220 already wired?
I would consider a bigger machine either way even if you only plan on welding body panels now. |
miller products FTW! I love my 140 autoset
|
I'd be getting it for a crackhead price and sheet metal wouldn't be the only thing I'd be interested in welding, apparently it will weld up to 1/4 inch thick; don't quote me on that though.
I have one 220 outlet but will be putting on I'm my garage, because it'll suck having to unplug the the dryer every time. Why a bigger machine though? Are they not good for a beginner? |
Is the 140 along the same lines as the Lincoln 155?
Want kind of thongs have you welded with it? Anything automotive? |
Because you will want a bigger machine later.
If its for home/hobby a millermatic 211 or a hobart handler 210 would probably take a while to outgrow. Both are multi voltage so you can run it off 115v or 230v, the duty cycle is fine for at home stuff as well. |
I'm sure it will be fine for body panels and getting a feel for welding. The best mig welder I've ever used was a Lincoln mig pulse welder. Absolutely amazing. Of course nothing against miller. I own 3 miller machines. But if I really wanted to mig weld sheet metal. The pulse welder is what id look into buying.
