5speed oil what type

i know this is going to be a dump question but i got tired looking it up on googles !!!! it never give u the right thing u want anyways lol

but my question is,
what type oil do i use for my 98 civic hx trans. 5speed ?

BigCountry 09-21-2009 09:30 PM

depends on what's in it now

crxfornow 09-21-2009 09:34 PM

just go to honda and get two quarts of mtf fluid, and drain yours completely// whyy would it depend on whats in it now?

BigCountry 09-22-2009 08:07 AM

I've always gone by what's in my trans... if it's got miles on it and you change the type of fluid that's in it, I would think that failure would happen.... But that's just me playing it safe.

Most ppl just use regular motor oil in the tranny

usdmEF_9 09-22-2009 11:14 AM

it is best to take a trip to the Honda dealer and pick up some MTF, if you dont want to then the best thing would be to use 10w 30 motor oil NON-SYNTHETIC thats the next best thing
