Trans shimming Q

When you shim a differential do yo have to shim both sides or just one?
If its one side which side of the diff requires the shim?

much ass garcias!

Pretty sure a tranny will only have one hole for you to shim :icon_eek:

Chuck Chainz 08-01-2014 11:15 AM

I've seen both sides shimmed, I guess not at once but some install the shim on the pass.side and I've also seen it on the driver side or clutch side.
Just wanna know where local tranny builders put them.

Chuck Chainz 08-01-2014 01:16 PM

Naw, no lsd just the stock diff.

Chuck Chainz 08-01-2014 03:37 PM

Ok got my answer.

Cage side.

For the sealed roller bearings: the shim goes in the passenger side axle hole of the transmission. This allows you to make sure the diff is totally seated in the clutch housing side (aka driver side), and measure the clearance thru the passenger side axle hole.
Service manual states the clearance should be 0 - 0.1 mm

Thanks,
Exactly what I was looking for.
