Bogging at 70 mph+

So recently my prelude has been bogging, but only when I go over 70 mph. It's like the fuel cuts out, and the car stops accelerating and then it picks up again. Anybody have any idea what it would be? I just replaced the cap and rotor, spark plugs, and wires. Didn't make a difference besides idle.

BB6 SwAg 03-07-2013 09:11 PM

My guess would be Injectors, or fuel filter clogged.

Jumpin Jax 03-07-2013 09:14 PM

Haven't touched the fuel filter yet. I do have a new one, just not comfortable putting it in.

blackyem1 03-08-2013 12:26 AM

Have u put gas recently? ? Cus my ek did the same thing right after I filled up ...drive, then bogged up, drive , and bogged up...first thing I tought got a bad batch of gas. ..throw in a addictive see if helps worked for me.

BB6 SwAg 03-08-2013 06:25 AM

It's cake man. Like 10 min tops. Just undo the hose and bolts that hold it to the firewall and install yhe old one. I would get some Lucas Injector cleaner first though. See if that helps.

Jumpin Jax 03-08-2013 06:26 AM

Hmm I guess I never thought of that. It's almost out of gas, I'll fill it up and see what happens.

Honda4Life. 03-08-2013 06:38 AM

I've never had that easy of a time and don't know anyone who's described it as "cake". More like pain in the ass. OP, get yourself a set of "crows feet" before tackling this.

Honda4Life. 03-08-2013 06:40 AM

Also, may want to do a throttle body cleaning and clean the sensors on it as well.

Rzarectah 03-08-2013 08:45 AM

Not a cake job at all, they are not like civics and integras. But yeah I would do the flyer since you have it already, and run something to clean your injectors.

Habmx 03-08-2013 08:57 AM

Helped my buddy fix an ek that was doing this once. The timing was off by one tooth.

Jumpin Jax 03-08-2013 12:45 PM

If the cat was going out, I would have a power loss. Exhaust is less than a year old, can't imagine it's already clogged. I'm going to change the fuel filter and run some seafoam through it after work.

BB6 SwAg 03-08-2013 01:48 PM

Nvm. Was thinking of my integra..... Lol my bad!

usdm420 03-08-2013 04:21 PM

I wonder if that's what causes my slight hiccup around 4k, and then again right before VTEC.

Jumpin Jax 03-17-2013 07:59 PM

Replaced fuel filter and ran seafoam through it, still bogs at 70+....

Honda4Life. 03-17-2013 11:14 PM

Fuel pump.

I believe I have the same issue, kind of, on my Del Sol.

Jumpin Jax 03-18-2013 12:10 PM

If it was the fuel pump, I would think it would have start-up problems as well. I am being told it could be the primary o2 sensor as well.

Honda4Life. 03-18-2013 12:40 PM

O2 will throw a code, fuel pump won't.

Rarely ever seen a bad up stream O2. It's generally the rear or cat or both.

Honda4Life. 03-18-2013 12:41 PM

As for no issue on start up, it's not working as hard as when at 70 plus. That's why you only see it at higher speeds.

Jumpin Jax 03-18-2013 02:43 PM

I'm betting it's the cat. Just want to make sure before I actually throw parts at it.

Jumpin Jax 03-22-2013 08:18 AM

Ordered secondary o2 sensor. Hope it fixes the problem.

Honda4Life. 03-22-2013 01:40 PM

Keep us updated. I'm curious.

Jumpin Jax 03-23-2013 06:38 PM

I'm just as curious as you are. Lol

J240sx 03-24-2013 09:32 AM

Is it auto? If so it could be your Trans. Doubt the O2 would cause that.

Habmx 03-24-2013 11:22 PM

did you ever look into this?

Jumpin Jax 03-25-2013 09:47 AM

Car is a manual. I highly doubt the timing is off by a tooth.

Jumpin Jax 03-25-2013 10:08 AM

Thought I'd mention that once I'm over 70 mph it runs like normal.

Ouch thats not good. New distributor time?

Sent from my SPH-L900 using JellyBombed Tapatalk 2

Jumpin Jax 03-28-2013 07:09 AM

Unfortunately, yes. I'm hoping it solves the bogging but not going to hope.

Jumpin Jax 04-25-2013 07:16 AM

Got a new distributor and installed it last night. Only time will tell if it fixed the problem
