Bypass switch for In-Dash

Anyone heard of a bypass switch for an in-dash dvd player? I have a co-worker that has a Kenwood In-dash that they rigged in order to play DVD’s while he is driving but in order to get it to play the created a by-pass switch that he must press before getting to the dvd screen.

The process goes like this:

Turn car on

In-Dash turns on

There is a warning sign displaying that unit should not be used while driving

Bypass switch must be pressed in order to get rid of that screen

Another display comes up saying something similar and he must press the screen to acknowledge

Now he can play movies.

Is there anyway to get rid of bypass switch or first display? What do you think? Discuss

By the way the car is a dodge charger, thanks again.

Its bettert to go online lik egoogle type in the make and model of ur screen and the unit number also. For example its a kenwood d0867 so type in kenwood d0867 bypass code and youll get a permanent code instead of using a switch

There is usually a sequence...Use a toggle in place of the E-brake/Parking brake. With my Jensen in the S14...all I had to do was turn the toggle on then off then on.

i just had to put the wire that hooks to the ebrake wire to ground instead for mine to work

on about 90% of in-dash decks there is a little green wire that you just have to ground out and BOOM, its always ready to play DVDs

x3

always worked for me

bumpstick 05-31-2009 08:58 PM

i just did a newer Pioneer DVD unit and this did not work. i had to throw a switch inline and toggle on, off, then back on. just fyi, it may be different depending on which brand you buy

Tweeder 06-01-2009 01:11 AM

glad you figured it out

pioneer, alpine, and jensen all don't work with just grounding the brake wire.

depending on which model the pioneer is, there is usually an update or trick to get around using the switch - check out avic411.com

alpine is just a pain in the ass

jensen usually has a code that you can enter in to disable the need for a switch

bumpstick 06-01-2009 05:00 PM

yeah well since your reply only helps 90% of in dash owners, i figured I'd help the other 10%

just ground the video wire

Pendulum 06-18-2009 09:57 PM

You can't just ground the parking brake wire, especially on nicer units.

I can bypass most indashes. It's pretty easy. Alpines are the most dificult and I had my shit bypassed in my EG.

If you buy the parts and come to me, I'll do it for you. Otherwise pm me and I'll let you know how to do it.

On Alpine's, or any newer style in dash that wont work with grounding the brake wire, just use the PAC TR7. I have one in my Alpine and it works great. Pretty easy to install.

i wanna try some of these things with my daul din

EFinyouup 07-05-2009 10:55 PM

pull the deck the bypass switch it pluged into the back of the deck take it out all video decks are basically the same

4bangin 07-10-2009 01:58 AM

if all else fails, pulse timer.....

Pendulum 07-10-2009 03:02 AM

<rant>

ugh. this thread bothers me.

ignorance abound.

You CAN NOT just ground the parking brake wire.

Anyone who says this will work is daft. It's a federal law that mandates ANY AND ALL indashes sold after a certain date (basically within the last 4-5 yrs) must have a multi-stage engagement.

That PAC module, pulse timers, or toggle switches are the ONLY way it'll work unless you have some bougie ass old indash.

I have installed 100's of JVC, Panasonic, and Eclipse in dash's that all that is needed is to ground the parking brake wire. So I don't know what federal law you are looking at, but I know those manufacturer's don't follow it.

tokico 08-09-2009 07:16 PM

yup wiring

ehb/crx 08-11-2009 01:27 PM

WTF is this? what are you talking about? fucking post whoring man...

I installed a jensesn on a EG and the wire that is meant for the parking brake was just attached to ground. It worked that way, I don't know how old it is though.

Also, on the newer ones or whatever, if using a toggle switch what two wires do you put on the switch? are they both routed to the deck or does one just go to ground? cause then how does any of that talk of grounding doesn't work make sense?

Pendulum 08-14-2009 05:11 PM

You run a wire from ground to one side of the toggle. Then run your park brake wire to said toggle. When you flip the switch, it grounds. It replicates the parking brake up - down - up grounding sequence.

jordanherrera07 08-23-2009 12:48 PM

i have a pioneer i just hooked up a switch to it one side with the green wire and onther cable running to a ground whenever i wanna see videos i just flip the switch

rushbuster70 11-01-2009 10:12 PM

anyone wanna install a double din for me and make sure the dvd player plays without the e-brake?

let me know...I can throw in a few bucks.

BigCountry 11-02-2009 12:15 AM

And where are you located? I'm down... lol

rushbuster70 11-02-2009 05:02 AM

^phoenix man...

auex 11-02-2009 10:34 AM

What kind of deck into what kind of car?

BigCountry 11-02-2009 10:53 AM

Read into it a little bit and you will see that he owns an xb...

auex 11-02-2009 11:30 AM

OK, now read into what he asked smart ass, sure he says he wants a deck installed. But where does it say he wants it installed into his XB? What if he has another car or his wife/gf's car? The kind of car matters when it comes to installing stereo equipment. So do you have anything constructive to add or just talking shit?
